Amcor, Sea Fairy, Petino launch single-dose pet nutrition packaging

The solution is designed for one-handed use, letting consumers snap open the pack along pre-scored fold lines to access a precisely portioned dose without scissors or additional measuring.

CHINA – Amcor has joined forces with Chinese pet food brand Sea Fairy and single-dose OEM specialist Petino to develop a card-style, single-dose format for pet fish oil, liquid nutritional supplements and other pet nutrition products.

The solution is developed for one-handed use, allowing consumers to snap open the pack along pre-scored fold lines to access a precisely portioned dose without scissors or additional measuring.

The lightweight, portable format is designed to support travel, outdoor use and feeding on the go.

Precise dosing addresses a persistent challenge in liquid pet supplements, where conventional bottles require measuring implements that introduce variability and spillage risk during administration.

High-Barrier Film Protects Oxidation-Sensitive Ingredients

The card-style format uses high-barrier film aimed at protecting sensitive ingredients such as fish oil from oxidation and ensuring product quality.

Fish oil and similar liquid nutritional supplements degrade rapidly when exposed to oxygen and light, which compromises both nutritional value and palatability.

Barrier performance in single-dose formats therefore determines whether the packaging can preserve product efficacy through distribution and storage without refrigeration.

Partnership Aligns Brand Insight With Manufacturing Scale

Amcor provides packaging technology and expertise, while Petino holds specialised single-dose manufacturing capabilities.

Sea Fairy contributes its understanding of Chinese pet owners, products and market channels.

Jeff Li, commercial general manager for food and personal care at Amcor Flexibles China, said that by bringing technology, manufacturing and brand capabilities together from the start, the partners could help customers move more efficiently from concept to commercial production.

He noted that the model could help Chinese brands bring packaging innovation to market and scale solutions globally.

Brand and OEM Leaders Cite Precision Pet Care Trend

Yang Jinyu, founder and chief executive of Sea Fairy, said single-dose formats were becoming a major growth driver, with packaging key to enhancing user experience and communicating brand quality.

He added that the format solved multiple pain points in daily use, covered full-scenario feeding needs and combined lightweight design with convenient, precise dosing, fitting modern precision pet care.

Yang also noted the format’s low-carbon credentials aligned with modern Chinese pet owners increasingly attentive to sustainability. Zhang Kai, pet project lead at Petino, said the company’s manufacturing capabilities ensured new products could scale to stable mass production.

Last month, Amcor partnered with Ge Wu An to introduce the Li Kou pet food cup, described as the first commercial deployment of an inverted-cup format in China.
