The patent’s timing aligns with increased regulatory pressure for enhanced authentication features in local products and the global anti-counterfeit packaging market’s rapid expansion.

INDIA – Arrow Greentech has secured a 20-year patent from the Indian Patent Office for its Color Shift Base Film manufacturing process, granting exclusive rights to produce the anti-counterfeiting security film used in currency, passports, and high-value brand protection packaging across India.
The patent, granted under the Indian Patent Act, covers both the film and its manufacturing method, preventing domestic competitors from reverse-engineering or copying the production workflow until 2041.
The technology enables dual-color shift properties, where the film changes color when viewed from different angles, making it a critical component in security threads for banknotes, ID cards, and premium product authentication.
The Mumbai-based specialty materials company, which reported FY25 revenue of ₹2,434 million (US$29.2 million), has built a portfolio of 27 patents across jurisdictions including the US, UK, Europe, South Africa, and Eurasia.
What Color Shift Film Technology Means for Security Packaging and Printing Applications
The Color Shift Base Film is manufactured using high chemical precision and specialized coating technology, with the patent protecting both the film composition and its production workflow.
Security packaging applications include currency threads, passport laminates, and authentication labels for pharmaceuticals, FMCG, and luxury goods.
The Indian anti-counterfeit packaging market for food and beverages grew at a remarkable CAGR of 60.96 percent from 2020 to 2024, with a 345.79 percent surge between 2023 and 2024 alone, reflecting accelerating adoption of anti-counterfeit measures.
The patent’s timing aligns with increased regulatory pressure for enhanced authentication features in local products and the global anti-counterfeit packaging market’s rapid expansion.
Arrow Greentech’s existing security portfolio includes tamper-evident labels, security holograms, and RFID-enabled smart packaging solutions.
Patent Protection Strengthens Revenue Visibility and Competitive Moat
The 20-year statutory monopoly prevents domestic competitors from replicating the manufacturing process, creating a formidable barrier to entry in India’s high-margin security film segment.
The patent also creates potential for future royalty income if the technology is licensed to other manufacturers.
Arrow Greentech’s IP portfolio now spans both the US patent for Dual-Color Shift Security Films granted in 2025 and this new Indian patent.
For packaging converters and brand owners, the patent ensures long-term availability of indigenous security packaging solutions, reducing reliance on imported authentication technologies while supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The company’s high-tech product segment delivered 79 percent year-on-year growth in FY25, driven by increased adoption of advanced security solutions and anti-counterfeit technologies.
