UK – American packaging company Berry Global is relaunching its popular CHSA (Cleaning and Hygiene Suppliers Association) accredited Green Sack range of refuse sacks.

Produced in Heanor, Derbyshire, UK, the refuse sacks are made from recycled agricultural and post-consumer plastic waste.

According to Berry, the latest version is easy to use and has improved seals for use in the cleaning, hospitality and facilities management sectors.

The sacks will now be produced in rolls of 25 and packed in a more convenient-to-use dispenser box. This format provides for more accurate stock management and easier transportation and storage.

Berry Global flexible films UK refuse sack business commercial director Lorcan Mekitarian said: “The Green Sack range has been a top seller for many years and the introduction of the convenience of sacks on a roll meets another key requirement of the away-from-home market.

“The range also continues to demonstrate our commitment to offering solutions that help our customers meet and exceed their sustainability goals as part of our Impact 2025 sustainability strategy.”

Berry says that the current version retains its older designs and performance, offering the same puncture and tear resistance that have been independently evaluated by the CHSA for conformity with its Refuse Sack Standards.

The packaging company has added features like multiple bottom seals across most of the range and star welds on the most popular lines.

New features include the introduction of multiple bottom seals across most of the range and star welds on the most popular lines.

With the help of these two product improvements, the sack now has enhanced leak resistance and strength integrity, the packaging product firm said.

This will enable the sack to attain a higher drop weight CHSA classification, which is a substantial benefit for consumers in the refuse sacks sector.

The new Green Sack range comprises over 90% recycled plastic, and RecyClass has validated the recycled content.

Available in a variety of sizes, the new range is designed to fit easily onto cleaning carts, further demonstrating its user-friendly benefits.

Berry’s soft plastic recycling initiative recognized with a Silver Award

Meanwhile, Berry’s successful collaborative project bringing with Heinz and Tesco and recycling technology experts Plastic Energy and Sabic to develop Heinz Beanz Snap Pots made with 39 percent recycled plastic has been recognized with a Silver Award in the global Packaging Innovation Awards.

The Packaging Innovation Awards is the packaging industry’s premier awards competition, recognizing the best in packaging design, encouraging advancements in sustainability and performance, and inspiring the next big ideas.

The awards look for creations that challenge the accepted limits of what’s possible, showcase new technologies or techniques, and inspire future innovation.

The award recognizes how the project has delivered improved sustainability for the Heinz Snap Pots while retaining what makes them so popular with consumers: handy snappable format, microwave-ready and freshness retention.

The Heinz Snap Pots produced by Berry Global use 39% ISCC PLUS-certified (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) recycled soft plastic on a mass balance basis.

Soft plastic is returned by consumers to and collected by Tesco stores for conversion by Plastic Energy into an optimal oil feedstock.

This is combined with virgin material by Sabic to produce an alternative feedstock to manufacture recycled food-contact-approved plastic pellets.

By diverting, recovering and upcycling plastics that would otherwise have been sent to landfill or incineration, this first-of-its-kind project helps to promote and support the move towards a circular economy.
