USA – Global packaging leader Berry Global Group, Inc. has partnered with Grillo’s Pickles to launch innovative, spill-proof, easy-open jars for its garden-fresh pickles.
With continuous thread closures, these custom, nestable, and widely recyclable polypropylene (PP) jars provide a simple, mess-free opening process while emphasizing innovation and sustainability.
“We initiated a custom jar exploration with Berry Global to address our biggest consumer complaint: spillage when opening our original jar,” said Adam Kaufman, President and CEO of Grillo’s Pickles.
“When updating our packaging, we wanted a significant improvement that matched the quality of our product. We are confident we’ve achieved that result.”
The custom jars, designed to be compatible with Berry’s line of ribbed closures, are a user’s dream. They prevent leakage during opening and closing, include pickle-shaped side grips for enhanced user control, and feature clear in-mold labels to maintain Grillo’s homemade aesthetic.
This thoughtful design not only simplifies the filling line process but also ensures a comfortable and convenient user experience.
Similar to Berry’s previous containers, these 32-ounce twist-top jars improve the recyclability of traditional glass pickle jars.
The nestable design minimizes wasted space during transportation and storage, optimizing supply chain efficiency.
The jars were designed for Grillo’s in collaboration with Blue Clover Studios, Berry’s internal design studio, following an art-to-part ideation workshop at Berry’s headquarters in Evansville, Indiana.
The jars and closures are produced at Berry’s plants in Streetsboro, Ohio, and Evansville, Indiana.
“We are committed to delivering cutting-edge packaging solutions that meet and exceed our customers’ expectations,” said Jeff Hill, Sr. Account Executive for Berry’s Consumer Packaging North America division.
“By combining our deep innovation expertise with valuable customer insights and trust, strong partnerships like these allow us to design products that elevate the consumer experience while supporting a circular economy.”
“By partnering with our customers from concept exploration to final product, Blue Clover helps streamline the collaborative process, resulting in elevated brand and consumer experiences and faster speed-to-market,” said Scott Fisher, Design Director for Blue Clover Studios.
Fully recyclable, customizable Domino bottle
Recently, the company launched a customizable, rectangular Domino bottle with up to 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic for the beauty, home, and personal care markets.
The 250ml Domino bottle includes a 75-millimetre-wide front face and customizable side panels. This allows all four sides of the container to be printed, maximizing opportunities for brands to create a unique packaging experience with a high-impact shelf presence.
The side panels can be further customized with distinctive, textured embossing or debossing to create a tactile experience for consumers.
Manufactured in high-density polyethylene (HDPE), the Domino bottle is fully recyclable where appropriate collection schemes exist.
The neck is suitable for a variety of caps and closures, including the recently launched Wave2cc all-plastic dispenser.
The rectangular bottle shape also allows for more efficient stacking, minimizing wasted space on shelf and during transportation and storage.
The Domino bottle is available through Berry Agile Solutions, which specializes in rapid sample delivery, low-cost customization options, and low minimum order quantities – to help brands stay on top of the latest consumer trends.
“In a retail environment where consumers are influenced by how brands are presented on-shelf, impactful packaging and graphic design is critical,” said Joe Horton, Sales and Marketing Director at Berry Agile Solutions.
“We want companies to be able to easily create eye-catching designs in line with their brand objectives. Domino helps brands quickly respond to current consumer trends and create the ‘Wow’ factor at lower cost.”
