SERBIA – Serbian confectioner the Ćatić has selected Berry Global’s UniPak container to pack its Waltz cream rolls.
The UniPak series is said to be a flexible solution for a broad variety of applications. It comes in a range of sizes and shapes like rectangular, square, round, or oval.
Ćatić will now pack its Waltz cream rolls in a rectangular 600 ml UniPak container with a lid and in-mould labeling (IML).
Ćatić CEO Bajro Ćatić said: “We were in the process of looking for a new packaging supplier who could act as our partner.
“We did not want major changes in the design of the packaging since it already worked well, and our customers were happy with it.
“The Berry UniPak container turned out to be the ideal solution and we made the switch as soon as we could.”
Bajro Ćatić added that they are satisfied with UniPak’s quality and design, and their customers can still enjoy the pack format that they are used to.
“We only had to make minor adjustments to our filling line because the new container is lighter than the previous one. And we get the logistical advantages of a slightly lighter packaging solution,” reiterated Ćatić.
Berry said that the containers and lids for the Waltz cream rolls are manufactured at its facility in Gračanica in Bosnia & Herzegovina. The facility is 300km away from the Ćatić’s production plants in Ivanje, Serbia.
In November last year, Berry developed a sustainable solution for the packaging of Norwegian ice cream producer Diplom-Is’s Royal brand.
Berry Global said the packaging solution enables waste to be sorted more easily, as it is detectable by Near Infra-Red (NIR) scanners.
The company uses a special high-quality non-carbon black master batch featuring special pigments to improve NIR technology detection and sorting.
Diplom-Is says that being one of the biggest ice cream producers and a household brand in Norway, the shift to a non-carbon black container has caught the attention of the market.
Diplom-Is Communications Manager Anne-Lene Molland, at the time, said: “We are always on the lookout for more sustainable and affordable packaging solutions for our products so when we got the opportunity to switch our premium ice cream brand Royal to non-carbon black containers, the choice was easy.”
The containers are in line with Diplom-Is’ goal to develop quality packaging without harming the environment. The Norwegian company aims to develop 100% recyclable packaging by 2025.
