ASIA – Australian-based packaging solutions company Detpak is introducing its Eco-Products range to Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

This range, made from renewable materials and certified compostable, includes plates, bowls, and containers with no-added PFAS, providing customers in these regions with more sustainable packaging options.

Detpak’s expansion into these markets marks the introduction of the largest range of compostable and no-added PFAS products by the brand in these regions.

Keith Bishop, Detmold’s General Manager for Product and Brand, emphasized the significance of this expansion, “In Southeast Asia and the Middle East, consumers are increasingly concerned about food waste, packaging disposal, and composting.

“By expanding our product range, we are fostering a more sustainable packaging industry through compostable and plant-based materials that are better for the environment, such as the no-added PFAS Vanguard range.”

The Vanguard range, launched in late 2023, became the first in Australia to offer a broad array of certified compostable, no-added PFAS sugarcane plates, bowls, and containers made from renewable, molded sugarcane fiber.

Ian Jacobson, President of Eco-Products, expressed excitement about the partnership, “Globally, both Eco-Products and Detpak are seeing similar legislative and consumer trends impacting the packaging landscape.

“We are thrilled to strengthen our partnership, as both companies have a strong strategic focus on delivering innovative and sustainable packaging solutions.

“Together, we have unmatched reach in our ability to identify and commercialize new solutions that meet the elevated sustainability requirements of the global foodservice packaging marketplace.”

The Vanguard range from Eco-Products uses a unique proprietary formulation to achieve grease resistance without relying on the addition of PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances).

This launch follows Detpak’s recognition at the APPMA (Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association) Awards of Excellence 2024, where they won the Packaging Design Innovation Award for their kerbside recyclable paper bag for fresh potatoes.

The APPMA Awards of Excellence, held in Melbourne, is the national awards program for the Australian packaging and processing industry.

It recognizes excellence, innovation, leadership, and best practices. Detpak, a subsidiary of the South Australian third-generation family-owned Detmold Group, was honored for developing Australia’s first kerbside recyclable paper bag for fresh potatoes in collaboration with Mitolo Family Farms and Coles.
