SWEDEN – DS Smith, a global leader in manufacturing sustainable fibre-based packaging solutions, has announced a supplier agreement with Jonsac, a Swedish company specializing in e-commerce bags made from FSC®-certified wood materials.

This strategic partnership aims to drive the shift from plastic to paper bags within the European e-commerce market at a significant scale.

The collaborative efforts of DS Smith and Jonsac will bring these innovative solutions to customers across all DS Smith markets in Europe.

The product range developed through this collaboration will cater to current customer needs while anticipating future packaging trends in the rapidly evolving e-commerce sector.

These bags will be 100% fibre-based and recyclable, offering DS Smith customers the ability to order large volumes to support their e-commerce operations.

This new agreement expands upon an existing arrangement where Jonsac supplies paper bag packaging solutions to DS Smith customers in the Nordics region.

Marc Chiron, Sales, Marketing, and Innovation Director at DS Smith, expressed enthusiasm about strengthening the partnership with Jonsac, highlighting their shared commitment to reducing plastic usage.

He stated, “We are excited to expand our collaboration with Jonsac beyond the Nordics. This initiative aligns with our dedication to the circular economy.”

Torbjörn Rodhe, CEO of Jonsac, emphasized the benefits of collaborating with DS Smith to meet the needs of current and future e-commerce customers.

He said, “They have a diverse customer base across various sectors, making this collaboration ideal for showcasing our product solutions.”

DS Smith’s overarching purpose of “Redefining Packaging for a Changing World” and its “Now & Next” sustainability strategy underline the company’s dedication to sustainability and the circular economy.

In addition to this collaboration, DS Smith recently invested €6 million in a state-of-the-art 4-color converting machine at its Eerbeek packaging plant in the Netherlands.

This investment reflects the company’s response to increasing customer demand for sustainable alternatives to plastic packaging.

The new converting machine, currently in the startup phase, is equipped with advanced automatic error detection systems and will produce bespoke boxes and alternative grades, meeting the evolving needs of customers with cutting-edge sustainable solutions.
