Fotograbados Longo boosts flexo capabilities with Miraclon’s Flexcel NX technology

The new installation includes Miraclon’s Flexcel NX System, PureFlexo Printing, and a Shine LED Lamp Kit.

ARGENTINA – Fotograbados Longo has installed Miraclon’s Flexcel NX System with PureFlexo Printing at its facility in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and sustainable production for customers across Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay.

Founded in 1938, Fotograbados Longo has long been a cornerstone of Argentina’s print industry. Originally specializing in zinc plates for letterpress, the company played a key role in the evolution of flexographic printing throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

Today, it continues to drive technological adoption within the region’s flexible packaging sector.

The new installation, completed earlier this year, includes Miraclon’s Flexcel NX System, PureFlexo Printing, and a Shine LED Lamp Kit.

The latter enabled Fotograbados Longo to retrofit its existing fluorescent exposure unit, increasing LED plate exposure capacity while reducing energy use and maintenance needs.

“For us, quality isn’t just about print results, it’s also about efficiency,” said Sebastián Longo, owner and managing director of Fotograbados Longo.

“We want our customers to be comfortable using our prepress tools and plates. Comfort means no problems during press setup or throughout the print run.”

The investment is part of the company’s broader push to help packaging converters transition toward fixed color palette printing, a process that minimizes ink changes, reduces waste, and enhances color predictability across runs.

Fotograbados Longo’s long-standing engagement with Miraclon technology was deepened through Sebastián Longo’s participation as a judge in the Global Flexo Innovation Awards in 2019 and 2021, which he says gave him valuable insight into how advanced prepress systems are reshaping global packaging production.

PureFlexo Printing, available through the Flexcel NX Print Suite for Flexible Packaging, leverages triple-form surface patterning to better control ink spread on press.

This technology reduces dot gain, minimizes ink build-up, and enhances overall process stability, enabling printers to achieve consistent results even on complex, high-speed runs.

With this upgrade, Fotograbados Longo strengthens its role as a regional flexo prepress leader, offering a full suite of services from package design to plate imaging.

The move underscores the growing adoption of digital flexo solutions in Latin America’s packaging market, where converters are seeking higher efficiency, reduced downtime, and improved environmental performance.
