Greyparrot secures US$27M for AI waste tech after detecting 1T objects across 20 countries

The firm’s technology also helps MRFs, waste managers, and regulators spot contamination trends and boost sorting efficiency across the recycling chain.

UK – Greyparrot has raised US$27 million (£20 million) in Series B funding led by technology investor Omar Mir, as the UK-based waste analytics firm’s AI systems have now detected one trillion waste objects across more than 20 countries.

The funding round, announced on 6 August 2026, will support the company’s expansion across North America and Europe while growing its AI, data science and product teams.

Greyparrot’s ‘analyzer’ units, which use AI-camera systems placed above belts in material recovery facilities, are now deployed with firms including Biffa, Veolia and GCC in the UK.

Chief Executive Mikela Druckman stated that waste is one of the planet’s largest untapped resources and that data is the infrastructure that unlocks it.

AI-Powered Waste Intelligence Drives Efficiency and Regulatory Compliance

The company says facilities using its products have reported efficiency improvements of up to 30 percent.

Consumer goods companies including Unilever and L’Oréal are using Greyparrot’s AI platform Deepnest to understand how their packaging performs after disposal, with data that can help sustainable design in line with packaging extended producer responsibility in the UK.

Biffa and FCC Environment were among the first UK-based firms to submit AI-derived waste composition data on outbound waste streams to the Environment Agency earlier this year.

The firm’s technology also helps material recovery facilities, waste management companies, and regulatory bodies to identify contamination trends and improve sorting efficiency across the recycling value chain.

Funding and Strategic Partnerships

The Series B funding follows previous investment rounds, including US$8.2 million (£6.3 million) raised in Series A in 2022, a £10.1 million (US$13.1 million) stake by Dutch recycling infrastructure firm Bollegraaf in 2024, and a US$500,000 (£385,000) investment from Amcor in 2023.

The firm intends to use the new funding to help abate over one million tonnes of waste by 2030.

Founded in 2019, Greyparrot now operates in more than 20 countries, providing continuous data on waste flows to help the sector improve material recovery as global instability raises the prospect of resource shortages.

Co-founder Ambarish Mitra stated that waste intelligence will do for materials what satellite data did for navigation, adding that once you can measure a material, you can trade it and invest in it. Omar Mir, who also advises the King’s Trust on AI, led the funding round.
