Mondi, Pacapime Hungary strengthen fresh produce packaging partnership

ProVantage SmartKraft Brown features a 100% fresh fibre top ply.

HUNGARY – Mondi is reinforcing its long-standing partnership with Pacapime Hungary to supply high-performance corrugated packaging for fresh fruit and vegetables across Central and Western Europe, as demand grows for durable and sustainable produce solutions.

Pacapime Hungary operates a 42,000m² corrugated production facility in Mórahalom with an annual capacity of up to 180 million m².

The company serves customers in Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Serbia and parts of Western Europe, specializing in boxes for apples, pears, tomatoes and bell peppers, applications that require robust structural performance and effective ventilation to protect produce in transit while maintaining shelf appeal.

To meet these requirements, Pacapime relies on Mondi’s ProVantage SmartKraft Brown containerboard grade.

The material features a 100% fresh fibre top ply, delivering strong surface integrity and consistent print and performance quality.

Its strength characteristics support reliable burst and tear resistance, while stable runnability enhances processing efficiency on high-speed corrugators.

“High-quality kraftliners are important in fresh produce applications,” said Tom Pissens, Managing Director at Pacapime Hungary.

“The paper must consistently support box performance, as our customers rely on us to deliver quality packaging every time.”

Since 2024, the business has been led by Lynn and Tom Pissens, representing the fourth generation of the family in the corrugated packaging sector.

The company combines decades of expertise with a lean, modern production setup that enables rapid decision-making and flexibility, particularly during peak harvest seasons when supply chain responsiveness is critical.

The collaboration with Mondi extends beyond material supply, incorporating close technical cooperation and on-site containerboard support.

Joint trials, data-driven optimization and continuous knowledge exchange help ensure packaging specifications remain aligned with evolving customer and retailer requirements.

“Business is about people and long-term trust,” said Lynn Pissens, Managing Director at Pacapime Hungary.

“Our collaboration with Mondi provides the stability and technical expertise that allow us to deliver consistent quality and drive innovation together.”

Sustainability remains central to the partnership. Pacapime has invested in water treatment systems, solar panels and transparent certification processes to meet rising environmental expectations from customers and consumers.

Mondi’s containerboard portfolio, based on a balanced fibre mix, supports circular packaging models designed to reduce material use while protecting product integrity.

The announcement comes amid wider industry momentum in fibre-based packaging for fresh produce, as retailers and growers seek solutions that minimize food waste and lower environmental impact.

By combining premium containerboard with operational expertise and long-term collaboration, Mondi and Pacapime Hungary aim to deliver resilient, sustainable packaging solutions that protect produce from field to shelf.
