Mondi teams up with Proquimia for sustainable innovation in dishwashing tab packaging

PORTUGAL – Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging, has partnered with Proquimia to introduce a paper-based stand-up pouch for dishwashing tabs in Spain and Portugal.

According to Mondi’s internal impact assessment, the innovative packaging, part of Mondi’s re/cycle FunctionalBarrier Paper 95/5 portfolio, replaces traditional plastic solutions and significantly lowers CO₂ emissions from production to disposal.

The new flexible pouches hold 20 water-soluble dishwashing tabs and offer convenience and functionality, featuring a resealable zipper for secure storage.

Designed to stand upright and support high-quality printing, the pouches ensure strong brand visibility while enhancing the consumer experience.

The packaging is designed to meet Spain and Portugal’s recyclability standards, with over 85% paper content, allowing easy disposal in paper recycling streams.

Mondi’s production process is entirely in-house, from responsibly sourced kraft paper to coating, printing, and final conversion into stand-up pouches ready for filling and sealing.

A step towards sustainability goals

The collaboration aligns with both companies’ sustainability objectives. Alessandro D’Agostino, Business Development Manager for Home & Personal Care at Mondi, highlighted the growing consumer demand for sustainable packaging, stating, “Consumers across Europe are choosing household brands that prioritize sustainable packaging.

“By collaborating closely with our customers, we aim to balance resource efficiency with minimal environmental impact. In line with our MAP2030 commitments, we are creating solutions to keep valuable raw materials in circulation.”

With this innovation, Mondi and Proquimia continue to drive sustainable advancements in household product packaging, offering eco-friendly solutions without compromising quality or performance.

Recently, the company expanded its portfolio of sustainable, high-quality office papers with the launch of IQ ULTRA and MAESTRO, experts in the premium segment.

These products offer 80 g/m² papers in A4 and A3 formats. Additionally, Mondi introduces a paper in the universal segment with 75 g/m² grammage and A4 format, catering to the entry-level market with an attractive performance.

Both product lines are produced at Mondi SCP in Ružomberok, the largest integrated mill for paper and pulp in the Slovak Republic.

These launches highlight Mondi’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, reflecting its aspiration to deliver comprehensive solutions in an ever-evolving paper market.
