SIG launches two compact aseptic filling machines for cartons

SIG Neo adds: XSlim 32 (single-serve, 32k packs/hr, 9 sizes) + Midi 15 (multi-serve, 15k cartons/hr, 3 sizes, MidiBloc/MidiFit).

GERMANY – SIG has launched two aseptic carton filling machines in October 2026 that raise output per square metre by roughly one-third, allowing food and beverage producers to add capacity inside existing plants rather than constructing new buildings.

The two units join the SIG Neo platform under distinct roles. SIG Neo XSlim 32 Aseptic handles single-serve cartons, reaching 32,000 packs per hour across nine pack sizes.

SIG Neo Midi 15 Aseptic covers multi-serve production, filling 15,000 squarish cartons per hour in three sizes across both SIG MidiBloc and SIG MidiFit formats.

Together they address a widening split in beverage demand, where single-serve consumption grows in convenience channels while family and sharing formats hold volume in grocery retail.

Open-Sleeve Filling Removes Tooling Changeovers

The XSlim 32 applies sleeve-based carton technology with an open-sleeve filling process, enabling operators to move between packaging sizes and formats in under 15 minutes without swapping machine parts.

SIG said this supported rapid SKU changes, reduced downtime, lower investment costs and faster response to shifting market demand.

Eliminating tooling changeovers directly addresses a common bottleneck in aseptic operations, where format switches traditionally require planned stoppages measured in hours rather than minutes.

Waste Below Half a Percent and Lower Filling Costs

Both machines are reported to run with a waste rate below 0.5 percent while reducing total filling costs relative to SIG’s standard equipment.

Christoph Wegener, chief markets officer at SIG, said many producers had reached the physical limits of their plants, adding that the machines delivered the industry’s highest output per square metre and added capacity to factories rather than buildings.

Digital Interface and Sterile Airflow Shielding Included

The units carry the SIG Neo human-machine interface for operation and performance insight, alongside SIG Neo Shield, which manages sterile airflow and shielding during bottom sealing and pre-folding and is said to remove up to 95 percent of airborne particles.

Gavin Steiner, chief technology officer at SIG, said the additions showed innovation translating into operational value through combined speed, flexibility, digital capability and aseptic performance.

Space Constraints Shape Equipment Demand

Rising construction and labour costs have pushed beverage producers to prioritise equipment that increases throughput without expanding floor area, a constraint the compact machines are designed to address while preserving format flexibility.
