By leveraging eBeam technology, NBi FlexPack’s cast and cure solution creates striking visual effects through light reflection.

USA – US-based flexible packaging manufacturer NBi FlexPack has integrated electron beam (eBeam) coating technology into its production platform, enabling the addition of cast-and-cure graphics to digitally printed flexible packaging.
The company is deploying the process to create custom watermarks and holographic-style effects directly on packaging substrates, similar to the security marks commonly found on identification cards.
By using a custom-built 30-inch eBeam cast-and-cure unit, NBi FlexPack can produce reflective surface patterns that manipulate light to generate distinctive visual finishes.
These can be applied as spot embellishments to highlight logos and brand elements or extended across the full package surface.
According to the company, the technology is designed not only to enhance shelf appeal but also to strengthen brand protection.
The embedded watermarks and holographic effects are highly resistant to replication, providing an additional anti-counterfeiting layer for brand owners operating in sectors vulnerable to product diversion and imitation.
Jeff Leto, sales vice-president at NBi FlexPack, said the company is “one of the few companies in the world” equipped with a custom 30-inch eBeam cast-and-cure system.
He noted that the platform enables brand owners to differentiate their products through high-impact embellishments while incorporating advanced security features into flexible packaging structures.
The move reflects broader industry efforts to combine aesthetics with functionality as converters respond to rising concerns over counterfeiting in food, personal care and pharmaceutical packaging.
Cast-and-cure technology, which uses patterned films and electron beam curing to create embossed optical effects without metallized layers, is increasingly viewed as a cost-effective alternative to traditional holographic films.
By eliminating the need for laminated holographic substrates in certain applications, converters can reduce material complexity and potentially improve recyclability.
In addition to security-driven enhancements, NBi FlexPack said the process can deliver premium visual outcomes without some of the cost burdens associated with conventional holographic films.
The company also provides in-house design support to help brands integrate embellishment and authentication features into packaging concepts from the early development stage.
Alongside its investment in eBeam capability, NBi FlexPack continues to promote sustainable packaging options aimed at minimizing environmental impact, aligning advanced decoration and protection technologies with evolving retailer and regulatory expectations.
