The recyclable FibreFresh punnets were scientifically designed for fresh produce applications, supporting product freshness through specialist respiration and transpiration management.

UK – Paranova has launched FibreFresh paper-based punnets for Flavourfresh’s limited-edition Tomalina tomato range in Asda stores, following a £500,000 (US$660,500) investment in Boix forming technology that enables recyclable packaging designed to maintain freshness through respiration and transpiration control.
The summer launch marks Paranova’s expansion into heat-sealed paper punnet production, building on its established position in the nested tray market.
The FibreFresh format delivers significant plastic reduction while offering enhanced branding opportunities through superior print surfaces.
Paranova supported Flavourfresh throughout the full development process, covering creative design, packaging development, testing, print and retail rollout.
How FibreFresh Punnets Balance Freshness, Machinability and On-Shelf Differentiation
The recyclable FibreFresh punnets were scientifically designed for fresh produce applications, supporting product freshness through specialist respiration and transpiration management.
The format delivers excellent machinability and has been engineered for compatibility with existing packing processes, helping customers transition to paper-based formats with minimal operational disruption.
Paranova Chief Commercial Officer Michael Conway stated that following the company’s recent investment and development in leading punnet technology, it was proud to have launched this new format for Flavourfresh, delivering a significant reduction in plastic while demonstrating how paper-based punnets can offer on-shelf differentiation, operational efficiency and support sustainability ambitions.
What FastFlex Tray and Lidding System Means for Fresh Produce Packaging Agility
Paranova is also preparing to launch FastFlex, a new tray and lidding system designed for fresh produce and convenience applications.
The system will provide lidding supply in less than seven days, compared with print cycles of two to four weeks using traditional methods.
The platform, produced on a newly commissioned press built for filmic paper-based tray applications, has been developed to provide greater agility for retailers and growers managing short production windows, promotional launches, seasonal demand fluctuations and reduced stock holdings.
According to Paranova, the launch will make it the UK’s only manufacturer currently offering both paper-based punnet and lidding formats within an integrated rapid-response system for fresh produce packaging.
The new system will combine reduced origination costs with no minimum order quantity requirements, making it accessible for smaller production runs and seasonal promotions.
