SPAIN – Spanish cosmetics packaging manufacturer Quadpack has launched ‘Idol Woodacity Solo Twist Compact’, a new member of its ‘Woodacity’ family.
Reportedly made of wood sourced from sustainably-managed European forests, the compact consists of a separate top and base – meaning that the cap can also be used as a pocket mirror.
Consumers can twist the cap on a 90° turn to the left or the right to open the pack, with its domed top aiming to provide a pleasant tactile experience.
On the other hand, the base contains a small, dismantlable magnet, designed to hold a flat, refillable, metallic 59mm godet in place and facilitate easy separation for recycling.
The recess at the base is thought to allow consumers to easily extract the godet and replace it with a filled version.
Brands can also customize the Solo Twist Compact to fit the needs of their products, according to the company.
Other refill solutions for personal care and cosmetic products include Fasten’s REfill REuse REpear, a jar system made of 100% recycled polypropylene; and Quadpack’s own New Regula Refill Jar, featuring a PET outer wall and an inner jar and double-walled cap made of PP.
This comes at a time when the cosmetics and personal care industry is becoming increasingly concerned with clean beauty and sustainable beauty.
This has arisen in response to pressure from consumers who are demanding more responsible packaging and corporate initiatives from the brands they choose to support.
And research increasingly shows that they are willing to pay more for goods that are environmentally friendly.
In addition, the pressure also arises from within the companies themselves who, like many companies operating today, wish to have a positive impact on the environment.
Many beauty industry suppliers are focusing their innovative packaging R&D on sustainable packaging solutions, some revamping entire lines to comply with strict environmental guidelines.
In July last year, Quadpack expanded its cosmetic packaging range with the addition of multi-stick packaging solutions.
According to the company, the Multi Sick, composed entirely of recyclable PP, is suitable for brands searching for packaging made with recycled materials because it has a PCR content of up to 42%.
“This collection widens the options to beauty brands for [environmentally] sustainable packaging. We are responding to a broader environmental concern for which consumers and brands are asking for solutions,” said Mónica Arcos, Category Specialist at Quadpack at the time.
