Scancode invests in Domino hybrid press to launch digital division

The hybrid press merges Domino’s inkjet platform with flexo stations for priming and varnishing.

INDIA – Scancode Auto ID Technology has made a strategic leap into digital packaging with the acquisition of a Domino N610i-H Hybrid Digital Label Press, finalised at Labelexpo Europe 2025 in Barcelona.

The move establishes Imprenta, the company’s newly branded digital printing division, marking a significant milestone in Scancode’s expansion across India’s fast-evolving packaging market.

Headquartered in Ahmedabad, Scancode has long served leading players in pharmaceuticals, FMCG, cosmetics, automotive, and agrochemicals through flexographic, offset, and gravure platforms.

The foray into digital reflects growing demand for short runs, multi-SKU packaging, and variable data printing, needs that traditional print lines often struggle to meet.

“Imprenta is our vision for the future of packaging — fast, flexible, and uncompromising in quality,” said Mitesh Patel, Managing Director of Scancode.

“The Domino N610i-H Hybrid is the technological backbone of this vision, enabling us to deliver results across labels, shrink sleeves, and flexible pouches.”

The hybrid press merges Domino’s inkjet platform with flexo stations for priming and varnishing, allowing converters to manage both specialty short-run jobs and high-volume production on a single line.

Scancode’s unit comes in a five-colour CMYK plus double white configuration, supported by flexo units before and after the digital engine.

According to Ajay Raorane, Vice-President for Digital Printing Solutions at Domino Printech India, Scancode’s decision followed an extensive evaluation of market opportunities.

“Short-run and variable jobs were becoming increasingly complex on flexo. Digital offered the speed, flexibility, and economics needed to stay competitive,” he noted.

He added that Domino supports customers with total cost of ownership assessments and trial sampling to ensure confidence in both technology and investment.

The investment comes as India’s packaging sector embraces digital transformation. Regulatory shifts, including GS1’s push for on-pack QR codes, and growing sustainability demands are pushing brands to seek agile solutions.

Industry analysts project India’s digital printing market to grow at double-digit rates over the next five years, driven by e-commerce packaging, SKU proliferation, and rapid product launches.

With Imprenta, Scancode joins the ranks of early adopters such as Pragati Pack and Parksons Packaging, positioning itself to offer brand owners a competitive edge in managing complexity, ensuring faster speed to market, and reducing waste.

“This is more than a technology investment,” Patel stressed. “It’s about redefining how packaging adds value for brands in India’s dynamic consumer landscape.”
