The new solution adapts proven technologies from vial and cartridge lines for syringe applications.
GERMANY – Syntegon has introduced the MLD Advanced, a state-of-the-art filling machine tailored for ready-to-use (RTU) nested syringes.
Designed to meet the growing demand for high-output, precision filling with 100% in-process control (IPC), the new solution adapts proven technologies from vial and cartridge lines for syringe applications.
“Especially with high-value medicines, each drop must be filled and weighed precisely,” says Markus Burkert, Product Manager at Syntegon.
“That’s why we’ve integrated the reliable MLD platform with our established syringe filling technology.”
At the core of the MLD Advanced is a seamless combination of automation and no-touch handling.
Automatic bag and tub openers ensure the aseptic transfer of syringes into the filling area, while the proprietary Pharma Handling Unit dentists syringes without glass-to-glass contact.
From there, containers are aligned via a pitch adjustment station and secured in a unique clip-based circulating transport system, developed initially for cartridge lines.
This transport method ensures smooth handling of RTU syringes, vials, and cartridges alike.
Before filling, each syringe is weighed using 100% IPC. The filling and stoppering process leverages technology from Syntegon’s well-known FXS series.
Flexible redosing is possible, ensuring minimal product loss and precise fill weights.
“Our priority is reducing waste and providing documented proof that every container has been filled correctly,” explains Klaus Ullherr, Senior Product Manager at Syntegon.
After stoppering via vacuum or vent tube, the transport system returns the syringes and carefully reinserts them into their nests.
“This integrated solution offers a seamless, single-source process for pre-sterilized syringes,” adds Ullherr.
A European pharmaceutical manufacturer has already ordered the first MLD Advanced unit. The manufacturer will soon benefit from the machine’s capacity of up to 400 syringes per minute, which guarantees gentle handling and high precision.
In parallel, Syntegon has also launched the Pack 103, an upgraded flow-wrapping machine designed for small- and medium-sized enterprises.
Building on the robust Doboy legacy, the Pack 103 delivers speeds of up to 175 packs per minute and is ideal for food, nonfood, and medical applications.
Its modern interface and simplified operations help businesses boost efficiency, reduce manual tasks, and increase productivity.
