Toyo Ink India opens advanced research hub at IISc Bengaluru, marking first overseas R&D centre for artience Group

The centre will support industrial applications across infrastructure, communication, healthcare, energy and advanced electronics.

INDIA – Toyo Ink India Pvt. Ltd., part of Japan’s artience Group, has inaugurated the artience Technology and Innovation Centre – India (aTIC-India) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, establishing the Group’s first research centre outside Japan.

The facility, officially opened on 4 February 2026 at the IISc campus, is positioned as a best-in-class research and co-creation hub focused on molecular-level materials science.

aTIC-India will support the development of next-generation, sustainable and high-performance materials for applications spanning infrastructure, telecommunications, healthcare, energy and advanced electronics.

The collaboration with IISc stems from discussions initiated in 2021 and reflects a long-term strategy to anchor advanced research capabilities in India.

By situating the centre within one of Asia’s leading scientific institutions, artience Group aims to integrate academic research with industrial-scale application development.

“The inauguration of aTIC-India marks a proud and historic milestone for artience Group,” said Satoru Takashima, CEO of artience Group.

“It reflects our commitment to excellence, purposeful innovation, and long-term collaboration, rooted in quality, sustainability, and real-world relevance.”

For Toyo Ink India, the investment builds on decades of manufacturing and innovation in printing inks, coatings, adhesives and specialty polymers for packaging and industrial markets.

The company has previously expanded its production footprint in India, introduced low-VOC and food-safe ink systems for flexible packaging, and advanced energy-curable technologies aligned with tightening environmental standards.

It has also worked closely with brand owners to develop sustainable packaging solutions, including inks compatible with recycling streams and reduced-migration formulations for food contact materials.

The new research centre is expected to deepen these capabilities by accelerating the development of bio-based materials, advanced functional coatings and high-performance resins tailored to emerging industry needs.

Toyo Ink India acknowledged the role of IISc professors and researchers in shaping the centre’s foundation, describing aTIC-India as a platform for co-creation that invites brand owners and industry partners to bring forward real-world problem statements for joint development.

The move comes as India strengthens its position as a strategic manufacturing and innovation hub, supported by policy incentives and growing demand for sustainable materials across packaging, electronics and infrastructure sectors.

Guided by the artience brand promise of “creating value that resonates with the senses,” aTIC-India aims to balance performance, cost-effectiveness and environmental responsibility, signalling a shift from incremental product development to deeper, science-driven material innovation within India’s industrial ecosystem.
