Zydus Lifesciences launches single-serve medicine pouches with SIG packaging

The packs incorporate SIG’s StrawCap 30 Linked tethered spout system and SIG Motion Servo 3.2 filling technology.

INDIA – Indian pharmaceutical company Zydus Lifesciences has partnered with Swiss packaging specialist SIG to roll out its liquid cough and cold medicine in single-serve spouted pouches, marking a significant step toward patient-friendly dosing solutions.

Zydus’ Deriphyllin CoughGo will be available in 5ml and 10ml ready-to-drink sachets, referred to as “siplets.”

These packs incorporate SIG’s StrawCap 30 Linked tethered spout system and SIG Motion Servo 3.2 filling technology, enabling precise portioning and safe dispensing.

Traditionally, liquid cough medicines are sold in multi-dose bottles, which can complicate dosing and often result in leftover medicine being discarded. By shifting to pre-portioned, single-use packs, Zydus aims to reduce dosing errors, minimize waste, and offer greater convenience for patients on the move.

The new packs are designed to lower contamination risk and eliminate the need for spoons or syringes, allowing the medicine to be consumed directly from the pouch.

The StrawCap 30 Linked system uses three times less plastic than conventional caps, and the tethered design ensures the closure remains attached, improving safety and usability.

Looking ahead, Zydus plans to pair these packs with SIG Terra RecShield, a fully recyclable film, aligning with growing environmental and sustainability standards in pharmaceutical packaging.

Abdelghany Eladib, President and General Manager for SIG India, Middle East and Africa, said, “Single-serve spouted pouches for pre-portioned pharmaceuticals, such as cough syrup, position us as frontrunners in the industry and represent a significant advancement in both patient comfort and safety.”

Zydus Lifesciences Managing Director Sharvil Patel added, “Our goal at Zydus is to make effective medication more accessible and consumer-friendly.

“Continuing with our patient-centric approaches, we are introducing Deriphyllin CoughGo in single-serve spouted pouches utilizing SIG’s advanced filling technology.”

The move reflects a broader global trend toward convenience-oriented and sustainable pharmaceutical packaging.

Companies such as Pfizer and Sanofi have also explored single-dose and pre-portioned liquid formats in Europe and North America, aiming to improve dosing accuracy, reduce waste, and enhance patient compliance.

By combining innovative closures, portion control, and recyclable materials, Zydus and SIG are positioning India at the forefront of modern pharmaceutical packaging, demonstrating how technology and design can improve both patient experience and environmental outcomes.
