SWITZERLAND – Amcor has secured a European patent for its AmFiber Performance Paper, a high-barrier, recyclable, paper-based packaging solution designed for high-speed customer line performance in food and healthcare packaging.
The AmFiber Performance Paper features a thin film barrier that maintains product freshness and safety while enhancing recyclability.
This European patent acknowledges Amcor’s innovative barrier and sealable materials, which offer a unique combination of functional benefits in paper-based packaging.
AmFiber is now available globally for applications across various sectors, including snacks, confectionery, dry culinary goods, beverages, meat, dairy, and home care.
Amcor’s Vice President of Global Product Management for AmFiber, Ilya Syshchikov, stated, “With its superior barrier properties, high performance, and excellent runnability, AmFiber Performance Paper is an ideal choice for brands worldwide seeking recyclable paper-based packaging solutions.
“Receiving the European patent is a testament to Amcor’s leadership in paper-based packaging and supports our goal of a circular economy.”
In addition to its product innovations, Amcor recently earned the EcoVadis Gold medal for its sustainability achievements, scoring 73 points and placing in the 95th percentile globally.
This prestigious recognition underscores Amcor’s commitment to environmentally responsible packaging, with the company ranking in the top 1% of its sector for sustainable procurement.
Amcor’s Chief Sustainability Officer, David Clark, expressed pride in this recognition: “This Gold medal is a testament to our dedication and the tangible progress we’ve made in our sustainability journey. Our customers value partners who align with their goals, and this award reinforces our commitment to the highest standards.”
Amcor’s EcoVadis assessments cover environmental practices, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.
The company undergoes these evaluations annually and requires its key suppliers to meet EcoVadis standards, promoting sustainability throughout its supply chain.
In fiscal 2024, 85% of Amcor’s strategic suppliers, representing US$4 billion in spend, completed the EcoVadis assessments, strengthening risk management and sustainability across its operations.
Amcor’s sustainability efforts go beyond assessments. In September 2024, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) officially approved the company’s long-term carbon reduction targets, which include achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its value chain by 2050, using 2022 as the base year.
This encompasses absolute reductions in emissions in scope 1, 2, and 3, focusing on areas such as purchased goods, energy-related activities, transportation, and end-of-life product treatment.
Additionally, earlier in 2024, Amcor’s near-term emission reduction targets were validated and aligned with a 1.5°C global temperature trajectory.
These goals include a 54.6% reduction in scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions and a 32.5% reduction in scope 3 emissions by 2033.
