SWITZERLAND – Amcor, a global leader in developing packaging solutions, has been awarded the prestigious EcoVadis Gold medal for its exemplary sustainability practices.
This recognition underscores the company’s commitment to advancing environmentally responsible packaging solutions.
Amcor’s overall EcoVadis score improved to 73, up from 70, placing the company in the 95th percentile of all businesses evaluated, and within the top 5% globally.
The EcoVadis Gold medal is a significant achievement, reflecting Amcor’s dedication to sustainability across key areas.
Notably, the company ranked in the top 1% of its sector for sustainable procurement. Amcor Chief Sustainability Officer David Clark expressed pride in the recognition, stating, “This Gold medal is a testament to our dedication and the tangible progress we’ve made in our sustainability journey.
“Our customers value partners who align with their strategic goals, and this award reinforces our commitment to the highest standards.”
EcoVadis assessments evaluate companies on four key performance areas: environmental practices, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.
Amcor not only undergoes these assessments annually but also requires its strategic suppliers to meet EcoVadis standards, ensuring sustainability and risk management throughout its supply chain.
In fiscal year 2024, 85% of Amcor’s strategic suppliers, representing US$4 billion in spend, completed EcoVadis assessments.
Amcor’s sustainability efforts go beyond assessments. In September 2024, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) officially approved the company’s long-term carbon reduction targets, which include achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its value chain by 2050, using 2022 as the base year.
This encompasses absolute reductions in emissions in scope 1, 2, and 3, focusing on areas such as purchased goods, energy-related activities, transportation, and end-of-life product treatment.
Additionally, earlier in 2024, Amcor’s near-term emission reduction targets were validated and aligned with a 1.5°C global temperature trajectory.
These goals include a 54.6% reduction in scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions and a 32.5% reduction in scope 3 emissions by 2033.
Clark emphasized, “Our long-term targets are integral to our sustainability strategy as we continue to deliver packaging solutions that protect products while minimizing environmental impact and supporting our customers’ decarbonization ambitions.”
This award and the company’s climate goals reaffirm Amcor’s leadership in advancing sustainable packaging and reducing its carbon footprint.
