Berry Global introduces cutting-edge closures for nutraceutical packaging

USA – Berry Global, a leading plastic packaging manufacturer, has unveiled new lightweight closures tailored specifically for the protein powder market, showcasing its commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The launch includes two notable closures: the 120-Special Next Gen Deep Skirt Screw On Closure Ribbed (120 Deep Skirt) and the 110/400 Wide-mouth Screw On Closure Ribbed (Lightweight 110/400).

Berry emphasizes that both closures can integrate 25% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, further underlining its dedication to environmental responsibility.

Crafted from recyclable polypropylene (PP), these closures are deemed safe for food contact, adhering to stringent industry standards.

They feature a standard liner and are meticulously engineered for optimal grip and usability, boasting fine-ribbed sidewalls and stipple tops.

Moreover, they ensure a secure, leak-free seal with precise closure-to-bottle thread contact, enhancing consumer satisfaction.

In addition to their application in food packaging, Berry’s new closures are versatile, catering to the wellness, personal care, beauty, and pet care markets.

Specifically tailored for protein powders and beauty and wellness supplements, matching stock bottles are available to provide a comprehensive packaging solution.

These innovative closures are part of Berry’s B Circular Range, exemplifying the company’s commitment to sustainability.

Leveraging its engineering expertise and proprietary processes, products within this range minimize environmental impact and assist brand owners in achieving their sustainability objectives.

An independent life cycle assessment conducted by the Association of Plastic Recyclers has revealed significant environmental benefits of these closures.

The 120 Deep Skirt closure, approximately 33% lighter, has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 192 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e) annually.

Similarly, the Lightweight 110/400 closure, approximately 31% lighter, could reduce emissions by up to 125t of tCO₂e annually, equivalent to the CO₂ emissions from approximately 289 barrels of oil consumed.

Beyond closures, Berry Global offers an extensive range of plastic caps and closures, catering to various packaging needs such as snap, screw, and flip-top caps, overcaps, and tube closures.

In a related sustainability initiative, Berry Global unveiled its Reusable Tableware Range in February, responding to the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions within the foodservice industry.

This initiative aligns with evolving legislative and consumer pressures, such as France’s Anti-Waste Law for Circular Economy (AGEC), mandating reusable tableware for restaurants and establishments accommodating over 20 patrons.

Josef Björck, VP of Food Service at Berry Superfos, emphasized the company’s commitment to assisting customers in navigating the sustainability landscape through innovative, reusable plastic products, driving the industry towards a truly circular economy.
