Bio Foods transforms its milk bottles into more sustainable ones

KENYA – In a sustainability initiative Bio Foods Ltd, a B-Corp Certified Kenyan processor and marketer of premium dairy products has announced the transition of the 2-litres milk bottles from a semi-transparent packaging to a transparent one.

According to the dairy giant Sustainability is at the heart of everything done at Bio Food Products creating a business that not only produces the cleanest, best tasting and healthiest products but also takes into account our social and environmental impact.

“We have made some impressive, industry-leading steps across the organization and are passionate about demonstrating to businesses that being sustainable can be positive for people, the planet and profit,” Bio said in a statement.

“This change aims to improve the bottles’ recyclability while maintaining the quality, safety, and shelf life of your favorite Bio milk.”

In the company’s second Sustainability Report, which covers the period from July 2020 to June 2021 Bio Foods share the results of last year’s sustainability journey which includes a 30% reduction of plastic in milk bottles and making yoghurt cups from 100% repurposed Kenyan plastic.

“Over the next few months, we will investigate what else we can do to improve our packaging and transport materials,” the company added.

“We are looking into the possibility of manufacturing our milk bottles from 100% recycled PET… We are also looking to see how we can reduce the amount of shrink wrap we use for transportation.”

Earlier this year, Bio Foods acquired the B Corporation certification stamping that the company has maintained a high standard of verified, overall social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability.

The dairy processor set up a five-year sustainability strategy to ensure that it engages stakeholders to help understand the importance of sustainability ensuring the strategy is incorporated in every area of focus.

“At Bio Foods, we strongly believe in sustainability as a core pillar for our Business and as an organization, we operate within and commit to the triple bottom-line framework, of people, planet, and profit,” the company added.

Bio Foods has been pioneering new concepts in product development and packaging within the East African and the Sub-Saharan Region.

The company aims to create a business that not only produces the cleanest, best tasting and healthiest products but also takes into account our social and environmental impact.
