BlackHorse’s 240MT sack packaging plant, 400MT rice mill strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural packaging value chain

NIGERIA – BlackHorse Holdings has launched a 240-tonne-per-month sack manufacturing plant under Aminchi Bags Limited alongside a 400-metric-tonne rice mill in Kano, with both facilities powered by a 3MW sustainable energy solution to address Nigeria’s agricultural packaging challenges.

The packaging-focused facilities were inaugurated on July 29, 2026, at the Crescent Rice Mill complex in Danzaki, Kano. 

Managing Director of Crescent Rice Limited, Rahul Bakliwal, stated that the sack manufacturing plant was established to support the packaging needs of the food and manufacturing industries while reducing dependence on imported sacks. 

The 240-tonne-per-month packaging facility produces high-quality sacks essential for rice, grains and other agricultural products, creating a closed-loop packaging solution within the agricultural value chain. 

Packaging Innovation and Sustainable Manufacturing

Both facilities are powered by a 3MW independent sustainable energy solution, ensuring uninterrupted packaging production and promoting environmentally sustainable manufacturing. 

The sack manufacturing plant produces woven polypropylene bags, which are crucial for the storage, transportation and export of agricultural produce, addressing a critical packaging gap that has long hindered Nigeria’s agricultural competitiveness. 

BlackHorse Holdings, with more than a decade of logistics experience through its subsidiary Dangwauro Container Terminal, has served packaging-dependent organisations including Ammasco International, Maersk and Mamuda Industries. 

By integrating packaging production with rice milling, the company has created a vertically integrated model that ensures consistent packaging supply for its own rice products while serving external customers.

Quality Certification and Expansion Plans for Packaging Operations

Three Crescent Rice products recently received the African Organisation for Standardisation Dual Mark of Quality through the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, certifying compliance with African Standard NIS ARSO 464:2017. 

Chairman and CEO Muhammad Sani Utai stated that the company is planning to expand its packaging operations further while extending its value chain through investments in groundnut oil and sorghum processing, all of which require specialized packaging solutions.

The packaging plant’s strategic location within the rice mill complex reduces logistics costs and ensures just-in-time packaging delivery for the rice processing operations. 

The commissioning attracted representatives from the banking sector, government agencies and business leaders, underscoring confidence in private-sector investments aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural packaging sector and reducing dependence on imported packaging materials.
