The African plants will now serve demand across three continents, positioning them as preferred suppliers to European buyers who must demonstrate compliance across their supply chains.

WEST AFRICA – Gravita has announced that its recycling plants in Ghana, Togo, and Senegal have been awarded ISCC PLUS and ISCC EU certifications, confirming that the facilities meet international standards for sustainability, traceability, and greenhouse gas reporting while enabling supply of certified recycled products to regulated European markets.
The certifications mark a significant expansion of Gravita’s certified footprint across Africa and Europe.
The company’s Romania plant already holds both certifications, while pyrolysis oil and recovered carbon black from the three African facilities will now support demand across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
Why ISCC Certification Matters
The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification system verifies that materials are sourced, processed, and traded according to strict environmental and social criteria.
ISCC PLUS covers mass balance auditing for circular materials, while ISCC EU certifies compliance with the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive.
Together, they enable Gravita to supply certified recycled products to markets where proof of sustainability is increasingly mandatory.
Products and Market Reach
Gravita supplies pyrolysis oil, recovered carbon black, rubber compound powder, and rubber compound sheets from its facilities.
The African plants will now serve demand across three continents, positioning them as preferred suppliers to European buyers who must demonstrate compliance across their supply chains.
Strategic Edge for African Recycling
The certifications come as European regulations tighten requirements for imported materials.
By securing ISCC PLUS and ISCC EU status, Gravita’s African plants gain a competitive advantage in markets where traceable, lower-carbon alternatives to virgin fossil-based materials are in high demand.
The certifications also enhance supply chain transparency and help customers meet sustainability reporting obligations.
The Bottom Line
For the recycling sector across Africa, Gravita’s achievement demonstrates that regional facilities can meet the most stringent international standards for traceability and carbon accounting.
The company will continue pursuing global certifications across its recycling facilities to strengthen compliance, improve market access, and support customers transitioning to certified sustainable raw materials.
As European markets increasingly demand verified circular inputs, certified African recyclers stand to capture significant value, provided they maintain the rigorous documentation that ISCC certification requires.
