HP India establishes Mumbai as hub for large-format printing innovation

Mumbai’s selection reflects its status as India’s historic printing and graphics epicenter.

INDIA – HP India, in partnership with Redington, has launched a state-of-the-art Graphics Experience Centre in Mumbai, positioning the city as the epicenter of its large-format printing strategy in India.

Inaugurated recently, the facility goes beyond showcasing HP’s advanced printing technologies, serving as an “idea centre” to foster collaboration, innovation, and training.

The centre underscores HP’s commitment to addressing India’s booming print market with scalable, sustainable solutions, leveraging its partnership with Redington to strengthen the print ecosystem.

Mumbai’s selection as the hub reflects its status as India’s historic printing and graphics epicenter, dating back to the digitalization of film posters decades ago.

Vitesh Sharma, HP’s country head for large-format printing in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, called Mumbai “the nerve centre of all economic activities,” citing its proximity to major retail and corporate brands.

The facility caters to evolving customer needs, offering versatile technologies like HP Latex, with over 2,500 units already installed nationwide, including in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

India’s printing market, valued at US$3.1 billion in 2024 per a Research and Markets report, is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5.8% through 2030, driven by infrastructure, retail, and personalization trends.

The centre targets key growth areas: reflective signage for infrastructure projects like roads and airports, where digital printing offers precision over traditional methods; and decorative printing, fueled by demand for personalized home decor such as wallpapers and canvas prints.

Sharma noted, “Decor is being driven by personalization today,” highlighting the centre’s role in demonstrating cohesive design solutions.

The facility also supports HP’s sustainability goals through the HP Planet Partners program, promoting recycling of print supplies to advance a circular economy.

Beyond technology displays, it serves as a collaborative hub where customers, partners, and HP teams ideate and address challenges.

The centre will host training for print operators and partners to maximize technology adoption, ensuring effective communication of its value proposition.

HP’s investment aligns with India’s economic upswing, driven by rising household incomes and retail expansion into non-metro areas, where demand for high-quality in-store graphics is surging.

While no immediate plans exist for additional centres, HP remains open to future expansion. The Mumbai facility positions HP to capitalize on India’s print market growth, reinforcing its leadership in innovative, sustainable large-format printing solutions.
