Lecta received a Platinum Medal in the EcoVadis sustainability rating, placing it among the top 1% of companies evaluated worldwide.

SPAIN – Paper manufacturer Lecta has published its 2024 Sustainability Report, under the theme “Creating Harmony,” highlighting robust progress towards its 2030 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.
Drawing inspiration from music, the report emphasizes how each team member plays a crucial role, akin to individual notes in a symphony, in building a sustainable future.
Released on June 23, the report showcases Lecta’s alignment with 11 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reinforcing the company’s commitment to responsible industrial growth and ethical stewardship.
The company’s initiatives this year span environmental performance, corporate governance, and employee well-being.
Lecta received a Platinum Medal in the EcoVadis sustainability rating, placing it among the top 1% of companies evaluated worldwide.
In another notable achievement, the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) validated Lecta’s targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3, an important step in the firm’s long-term decarbonization roadmap.
CEO Gilles Van Nieuwenhuyzen praised the momentum, stating, “Lecta has made significant progress in sustainability this year, earning external recognition from organizations like EcoVadis and SBTi. Our efforts are driven by a clear vision: creating a more sustainable future for the next generations.”
The 2024 report also places strong emphasis on employee health and safety, a cornerstone of Lecta’s social strategy.
During the reporting period, the company implemented a Supplier Code of Conduct, enhancing transparency and accountability across its value chain.
This code complements Lecta’s internal Code of Ethics and its new Sustainability Policy, forming a comprehensive framework for ethical business conduct.
This year’s achievements build on a strong history of sustainable development. In 2022, Lecta reduced its water and energy consumption significantly at its manufacturing sites, while in 2023, the company transitioned several product lines to fully recyclable, FSC-certified materials.
These milestones reflect a steady transformation toward a circular and low-impact production model.
Lecta’s ESG journey mirrors similar initiatives in the paper industry. For instance, Finnish paper group UPM has also aligned with SBTi and invested in biorefineries, while Mondi has launched “Action Plan 2030,” targeting climate resilience and sustainable packaging.
These collective efforts underscore a broader shift within the paper sector toward integrated ESG strategies.
As it advances toward 2030, Lecta is positioning itself not only as a responsible manufacturer but as a sustainability leader harmonizing performance with purpose.
