Mpact, Zeda join forces to advance South Africa’s circular waste management goals

Mpact will install customized waste separation systems at key Zeda locations, conduct regular waste audits, and manage the collection.

SOUTH AFRICA – Mpact Waste Management has partnered with Zeda Limited, the licensed operator of the Avis car rental brand in Southern Africa, to roll out comprehensive waste diversion and materials management systems at select operational sites across the country.

The partnership merges Mpact’s national waste management infrastructure and real-time tracking technology with Zeda’s ongoing sustainability strategy, embedding measurable waste reduction practices into daily operations.

The initiative aims to minimize waste-to-landfill, improve recycling performance, and support national circular economy objectives.

“This is not a symbolic gesture; it is a fully integrated, performance-driven program,” said Jermaine Rajah, national sales and relationship manager at Mpact Waste Management.

“Our role is to support Zeda in reducing landfill volumes while giving them robust dashboards to track and communicate their progress with confidence.”

Under the agreement, Mpact will install customized waste separation systems at key Zeda locations, conduct regular waste audits, and manage the collection, sorting, and tracking of recyclables and general waste streams.

The company will also provide secure document destruction services, ensuring compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) while maintaining safe and environmentally sound disposal practices.

Zeda Limited, which has already diverted over 333,000 recyclable items from its branches since 2013, sees the partnership as the next phase in its sustainability evolution.

“We have invested heavily in water-saving and carbon-reduction initiatives for years,” said Mary Thipe, senior manager of sustainability and safety at Zeda.

“Working with Mpact allows us to close the loop on waste and ensure our efforts are both measurable and meaningful.”

The collaboration exemplifies how cross-sector partnerships can drive tangible sustainability outcomes by aligning infrastructure, data, and corporate intent.

Mpact’s systems enable clients to comply with evolving waste legislation while contributing to environmental impact reduction and transparency in reporting.

“Mpact Waste Management helps corporates translate good intentions into measurable change,” added Rajah.

“Our model is scalable and proven, and we invite other organizations serious about sustainability to partner with us, because the future is circular, and it is being built today.”

The initiative is expected to serve as a benchmark for corporate waste management in South Africa, demonstrating how data-driven collaboration can advance both environmental and business performance goals.
