SalzburgMilch debuts Europe’s first SIG DomeMini carton bottle with 80% less plastic in Austria

The pack reduces plastic by more than 80 percent compared to traditional plastic bottles, a significant reduction that addresses growing consumer concern about single-use plastic packaging in the beverage sector.

AUSTRIA – SalzburgMilch has become the first company in Europe to commercially launch products in SIG’s DomeMini on-the-go carton bottle, with the Alex chocolate milk and Lisa vanilla milk now on Austrian shelves and the SIG DomeMini 12 Aseptic line filling 12,000 packs per hour across seven sizes.

The Austrian dairy company, the third largest in the country, processes milk exclusively from Salzburg, Upper Austria, and Bavaria. The SIG DomeMini 12 Aseptic filling line can fill 12,000 packs per hour across seven volume sizes from 180ml to 350ml, with volume changes completed in just 15 minutes.

On-the-Go Design and Renewable Material Content Drive Market Differentiation

SIG DomeMini combines the protective and logistical benefits of a carton with the convenience of a bottle, featuring a large, centrally positioned closure that is easy to open, reseal, and store.

The packaging is primarily made from FSC-certified paperboard (License code: FSC C020428) and produced using 100% renewable electricity.

Vanessa Bogner, marketing manager for D-A-CH at SIG, stated that the launch with SalzburgMilch will inspire more dairy and beverage manufacturers to also install a SIG DomeMini 12 Aseptic filling line, opening up new product opportunities for on-the-go consumption.

The format is particularly suited for products that undergo ultra-high temperature processing, including specialty milks, protein drinks, plant-based milk alternatives, and meal replacements.

Additional Products and Contract Manufacturing Opportunities

SalzburgMilch managing director Andreas Gasteiger commented that Alex and Lisa in SIG DomeMini are only the beginning, with additional product concepts already in development.

The company also plans to use the new line for contract manufacturing and private-label production for retailers, leveraging its central European location for efficient logistics and distribution.

SIG senior key account manager Nino Schmid noted that the start of commercial production marks an important milestone for SIG DomeMini in Europe, delivering the perfect combination of on-the-go convenience, strong shelf differentiation, and much less plastic compared to plastic bottles.

The on-the-go design also features a resealable format that maintains product freshness after opening, making it suitable for consumers who consume beverages in multiple sittings throughout the day.
