Antalis bolsters European recyclable packaging portfolio with Speidel acquisition

The acquisition fits Antalis’s strategy to grow in customised packaging—a segment it sees as a key growth driver for its European business.

GERMANY – Antalis has acquired German custom packaging manufacturer Speidel Verpackungen, a 60-employee company with nearly €17 million (US$19.5 million) in annual revenue that specialises in corrugated and heavy-duty board solutions for medical technology, mechanical engineering and automotive sectors.

The acquisition, announced on 4 August 2026, extends Antalis’s foothold in Europe’s packaging market.

Speidel Verpackungen, established in 1981, develops packaging products for customers across medical technology, mechanical engineering, metalworking and automotive industries, with its manufacturing work centred on corrugated and heavy-duty corrugated board alongside wood and foam materials – all of which are fully recyclable and align with circular economy principles.

Antalis described the customised packaging segment as a “key growth driver” for the company.

Speidel’s Custom Packaging Expertise Strengthens Antalis’s European Portfolio

Antalis CEO Hervé Poncin stated that the company is delighted to welcome the Speidel team, noting that its extensive expertise in bespoke packaging perfectly complements Antalis’s packaging organisation and will strengthen the customer offering.

Speidel Verpackungen managing director Rainer Speidel noted that joining Antalis is a fantastic opportunity, providing the resources and network to accelerate growth, invest in new technologies, and bring innovative, sustainable packaging solutions to a wider audience.

The acquisition aligns with Antalis’s strategy to expand its presence in the customised packaging segment, which the company has identified as a key growth driver for its European operations.

Antalis’s Acquisition Strategy and Sustainable Packaging Focus

The deal follows Antalis’s acquisition of The Packaging Company (Midlands) in the UK last year for an undisclosed sum, which enabled the company to diversify its product offerings and enhance its ability to meet growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions.

The company operates as a major distributor of paper, packaging and visual communication solutions, with a strong presence in Europe and emerging markets.

Speidel Verpackungen’s custom packaging capabilities, combined with Antalis’s extensive distribution network, are expected to create synergies in serving customers across multiple European markets, particularly in the medical technology and automotive sectors where demand for high-performance, recyclable packaging continues to grow.

The acquisition strengthens Antalis’s position in the sustainable packaging value chain, offering customers access to specialised custom packaging solutions that meet both performance and environmental requirements.
