Ahlstrom’s Jacareí Plant launches MaxLiner release paper for South American PSA labeling market

BRAZIL – Ahlstrom has launched MaxLiner, a high-transparency, high-density release paper for pressure-sensitive adhesive labeling produced at its Jacareí plant in Brazil, expanding its regional manufacturing footprint to offer South American customers shorter lead times and reduced supply chain risk.

The new grade, announced on 8 July 2026, is manufactured with responsibly sourced, certified renewable fibers and can be supplied with chain-of-custody forestry management certification, meeting customers’ sustainable sourcing requirements. 

MaxLiner is designed to meet hold-out, density and transparency requirements for silicone coating, lamination and later stages of PSA label production, including printing, die-cutting and dispensing. 

The launch complements Ahlstrom’s existing Brazilian offering of clay-coated release papers and coated and uncoated label papers, giving South American customers locally available supply with shorter lead times. 

Regional Production Expands Ahlstrom’s Global Release Liner Footprint

With production now established in South America, alongside existing glassine and supercalendered kraft capabilities in Europe and North America, Ahlstrom reinforces its position as a global partner to the PSA industry. 

The company’s release liner materials also serve a wide range of end-use segments, including composites, food, graphics, industrial and medical applications, with production across Europe and North and South America. 

In South America, labels and/or product labels for various industrial segments, including food, personal hygiene and cleaning, represent nearly 70 percent of the release liner volume consumed, according to AWA consultancy data.

Commitment to Sustainable Solutions for the PSA Industry

Marco Martinez, Head of Product, Sustainability and Marketing for Release Liners at Ahlstrom, stated that MaxLiner is a tangible demonstration of the company’s continued commitment to the PSA industry and its strong focus on South America, with the Brazilian unit now able to offer a more complete range of release and label papers supporting local customers’ growth. 

The development also reflects Ahlstrom’s continuous innovation efforts and ambition to advance new sustainable solutions. 

The product uses “responsibly sourced, certified renewable fibres” and can be supplied with chain-of-custody forestry management certification, in line with customers’ sourcing requirements. 

The launch follows Ahlstrom’s introduction of Acti-V RRF Natural in February, a paper release liner designed for double-sided pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes that is recyclable with standard paper streams.
