ALGERIA – Algeria’s Investment Promotion Agency has held discussions with Slovenia’s Ambassador to explore closer cooperation in investment facilitation, focusing on packaging solutions for the food and pharmaceutical industries, as both nations seek to deepen institutional ties and business partnerships.
The meeting, held at AAPI headquarters in Algiers, brought together Director General Omar Rekkache and Ambassador Urška Kramberger Mendek to review mechanisms for strengthening collaboration.
Discussions centered on cooperation between AAPI and SPIRIT Slovenia, the Slovenian public agency for entrepreneurship, internationalisation and foreign investment, which supported 380 projects.
Rekkache presented Algeria’s investment incentives, encouraging Slovenian companies to explore opportunities in pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, mechanical industries, plastics and polymer manufacturing.
Packaging Solutions for Food and Pharma Identified as Key Investment Sector
Rekkache highlighted packaging solutions for the food and pharmaceutical industries as a priority sector for collaboration, alongside strategic agriculture, industrial subcontracting and plastics manufacturing.
Algeria’s GDP stands at US$270 billion with foreign exchange reserves of US$69 billion, while Slovenia’s dynamic, digitised economy offers advanced technologies in sustainable development and innovation.
The two sides also discussed encouraging Algerian company participation in an upcoming economic exhibition in Slovenia and examining the possibility of organising a bilateral business forum bringing together companies and investors from both countries to further identify joint ventures in packaging and related industries.

Institutional Cooperation and Business Forums Set to Deepen Economic Ties
The meeting reflects Algeria’s ongoing efforts to expand international investment partnerships and attract foreign capital as part of its strategy to diversify the economy and strengthen non-hydrocarbon sectors.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating implementation through close coordination and efficient use of available resources.
The discussions build on Slovenia’s track record of supporting 43 confirmed investments and organising over 100 international business events in 2025, which enabled Slovenian firms to establish 10,000 business contacts worldwide.
By encouraging participation in trade exhibitions and organising business forums, Algeria and Slovenia aim to create new opportunities for packaging manufacturers, converters and suppliers to collaborate across both markets.
