Avery Dennison’s new Pathfinder Edge handheld printer delivers 50% speed boost with 25% longer battery life

USA – Avery Dennison has launched Pathfinder Edge, a handheld label printer combining scanning, printing and label application in a single device that prints 50% faster and runs 25% longer per charge than its predecessor, targeting retail and logistics operations where speed and accuracy directly impact throughput.

The device, announced on 18 June 2026, marks the most significant upgrade in the Pathfinder line’s 40-year history. 

Pathfinder Edge integrates barcode scanning, label printing and application into an ergonomically designed unit, eliminating the need for workers to juggle multiple devices on the shop floor or in warehouses. 

Key features include a quick-scan trigger for high-volume environments, a simplified interface designed to reduce training time from days to minutes, advanced connectivity options including NFC, Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth, and predictive monitoring that flags potential issues before they cause unplanned downtime.

How Faster Print-and-Apply Reduces Misrouted Shipments and Cut Waste

In parcel logistics operations, the device’s quicker and more accurate print-and-apply processes can raise throughput while reducing routing errors and failed deliveries. 

For clothing and general retail, Pathfinder Edge supports reticketing and markdown activities, enabling stores to respond to shifting demand in real time. 

In food and grocery settings, markdown management capabilities help cut waste and improve on-shelf availability. 

The company said later models in the line will include radio frequency identification functions, with planned uses in inventory management, freshness tracking and reticketing.

Avery Dennison digital solutions vice president Michael Goller said that retail and logistics leaders face a difficult landscape as customer expectations grow while labor and margin demands tighten. 

He explained that many face the challenge of juggling multiple devices on the shop floor while tackling manual, error-prone workflows, which is why the company built Pathfinder Edge to remove hassle and enable greater efficiency and accuracy.

What 40 Years of Pathfinder Evolution Means for Retail Efficiency

Pathfinder Edge represents the first model in a new generation of mobile devices from Avery Dennison. 

The launch coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Pathfinder product line, with the company describing the new device as its most efficient handheld printer yet. 

The company will continue to support its existing Pathfinder installed base as customers transition to the new platform.
