The company claims its advanced manufacturing process eliminates pouch weakness at the joints.

UKRAINE – Gualapack Ukraine has expanded its flexible packaging portfolio with the introduction of flat bottom and side gusset pouch formats, targeting improved shelf presence, material efficiency, and user convenience across multiple product categories.
The new formats are designed to optimize shape utilization while maintaining stability throughout the product lifecycle.
According to the company, both pouch types can stand upright without additional support, even as contents are depleted, making them suitable for retail environments where visibility and space efficiency are critical.
The flat bottom pouch is constructed from five connected panels, enabling it to retain an upright position when partially filled or nearly empty.
Meanwhile, the side gusset pouch features expandable side panels that adjust to varying fill levels, with the pack’s shape and stability derived from the product itself.
Gualapack Ukraine says both formats make efficient use of space during transportation and storage, helping manufacturers reduce logistical inefficiencies.
Target applications include pet food, coffee, superfoods, and sports nutrition, segments that continue to drive demand for premium, functional pouch designs that combine durability with strong on-shelf differentiation.
A key focus of the new pouch range is structural integrity and hygiene. Gualapack Ukraine highlights its proprietary forming technology, which prevents the formation of internal folds or “pockets” where product residue can accumulate.
This issue is commonly associated with traditional pouch designs and can affect product evacuation and cleanliness.
In addition, the company notes that conventional pouches often weaken at the junction where front, back, and gusset panels meet, increasing the risk of tearing or leakage.
Its advanced manufacturing process is said to eliminate this weakness, resulting in enhanced strength, reliability, and a cleaner internal structure.
Supporting sustainability objectives, both the flat bottom and side gusset formats are available in mono-material structures.
These designs are intended to improve recyclability and help brand owners align with evolving EU packaging and waste regulations, which increasingly favour mono-material solutions compatible with existing recycling streams.
The launch comes amid wider innovation in flexible packaging focused on recyclability and material reduction.
Last September, Dow, Macchi, and ITP collaborated on a mono-PE pouch prototype containing more than 50% chemically recycled content.
The solution is designed for snacks and other highly regulated products, offering gas and moisture barriers suitable for direct food contact while reducing reliance on virgin plastics.
Elsewhere, SÜDPACK Medica last month introduced its MedHub service, enabling customers to order pre-made pouches in standard sizes and defined batch quantities through phone, email, or online channels.
Manufactured in ISO-certified cleanrooms, the pouches are designed to meet the stringent quality requirements of the healthcare sector.
Together, these developments underline the continued evolution of pouch packaging, as manufacturers balance performance, sustainability, and operational efficiency in response to changing market and regulatory demands.
