A one-way valve releases CO₂ from roasted beans without letting oxygen in, preserving flavour, scent, and product standards through transit, storage, and retail display, the company said.

NORTH AMERICA – SunDance has incorporated bespoke coffee pouches fitted with degassing valves into its flexible packaging selection, allowing clients to purchase stock aligned with real demand instead of committing to large batches.
The packaging utilises a one-way mechanism that lets carbon dioxide vent from roasted beans without permitting ambient oxygen to enter the interior.
This operation safeguards flavour, scent and general product standards during transit, warehousing and shop presentation, the company said.
Degassing valves address a specific challenge in coffee packaging, since freshly roasted beans release carbon dioxide for days after roasting, and sealed pouches without venting can swell, rupture or lose seal integrity.
Digital Printing Supports Short Runs and Seasonal Blends
The format links valve technology with digital printing and helps clients purchase stock aligned with real demand rather than opting for large batches.
The offering targets niche coffee roasters, newer brands, seasonal products, limited-edition blends, subscription schemes and new rollouts.
According to SunDance, clients can adapt the exterior with specific graphics, messaging and product details, giving smaller roasters access to customised packaging without minimum order volumes typical of conventional printing.
Format Extends to Other Dry Goods and Speciality Foods
Although designed primarily for ground and whole-bean coffee, the pouches can also be used across other dry goods and speciality food sectors requiring odour and freshness preservation.
JohnHenry Ruggieri, president of SunDance, said coffee brands needed packaging that protected product quality while providing flexibility as their business grew.
Earlier Expansion Brought Flexible Format to Cereal Segment
Last month, the company broadened the use of its POUCH³ flexible packaging to the cereal segment.
SunDance said POUCH³ changed conventional arrangements via a patented cuboid flexible design that seeks to combine the shelf presence of a box with changes in material use, pack graphics and logistics.
POUCH³ differs from standard stand-up pouches by retaining a rigid-looking, box-style form and offering six printable sides.
The coffee valve launch extends SunDance’s strategy of applying flexible packaging technology to categories where brands seek differentiation and reduced material consumption without sacrificing structural performance or retail presentation.
