Melodea’s new MeloPack delivers PPWR-ready mono-material packaging with OTR below 0.2 cc/m²/day in 30 days

The mono-material structures enable enhanced recyclability by eliminating the need for material separation during recycling, improving resource efficiency and supporting the circular economy.

ISRAEL – Melodea has launched MeloPack, an end-to-end flexible packaging solution that delivers PPWR-compliant, recyclable mono-material rollstock to food brands within 30 days, with high-barrier OTR below 0.2 cc/m²/day and direct food contact certifications.

The Israeli green-tech company’s solution, built on its patented MelOx-NGen and VBseal coating platforms, enables food brands to replace non-recyclable multi-layer laminates with transparent mono-material packaging engineered for demanding food applications without altering existing filling lines or requiring capital expenditure.

Available in three configurations, BOPP+MelOx-NGen+PP, PE+MelOx-NGen, and Bio PE+MelOx-NGen, MeloPack is certified for direct food contact under EU EC 10/2011, FDA and BfR regulations.

Drop-In Replacement with High-Barrier Performance and Fast Turnaround

MeloPack structures deliver oxygen transmission rates below 0.2 cc/m²/day and water vapour transmission rates below 0.2 g/m²/day across PE-based configurations, with film thickness ranging from 40 to 200 microns.

The packaging is compatible with vertical form-fill-seal and horizontal form-fill-seal lines and suitable for flexographic printing with up to eight colours.

Melodea states that MeloPack’s pricing is competitive with conventional multi-material laminates, with each batch accompanied by a Technical Data Sheet and Certificate of Analysis.

The solution is already deployed in commercial food applications including sifted flour, spices, and avocado spread.

The company’s MelOx-NGen coating serves as a high-barrier mono-material alternative to EVOH, aluminium oxide, silicon oxide, and aluminium laminates for both paper and flexible film substrates.

MeloPack’s transparent film allows consumers to see the product inside, which is particularly important for premium food brands seeking to showcase product quality while maintaining sustainability credentials.

PPWR Compliance and Circular Economy Alignment

MeloPack is designed to meet the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation requirements effective August 2026, which mandate that all packaging must be recyclable.

The mono-material structures enable enhanced recyclability by eliminating the need for material separation during recycling, improving resource efficiency and supporting the circular economy.

For brands transitioning from multi-layer laminates, Melodea claims converters can transition to recyclable packaging formats within 60–90 days without capital expenditure, inventory changes or new infrastructure.

The solution offers food brands a path to regulatory compliance while maintaining shelf life and operational performance.

The ability to deliver production-ready rollstock within 30 days enables brand owners to meet sustainability targets without delaying product launches, giving them a competitive advantage in an increasingly regulated market.
