Pyramid Technoplast secures clearance for packaging waste recycling

INDIA – Pyramid Technoplast has secured regulatory clearance from the Gujarat Pollution Control Board to process third-party industrial packaging waste, permitting annual handling of 960 metric tonnes and monthly production of 9,000 reconditioned containers.

Under the revised Consolidated Consent and Authorisation, the company is permitted to collect, haul, store and process contaminated drums, containers and chemical liners, according to an exchange filing. 

The regulatory terms establish an annual processing limit of 960 metric tonnes for third-party industrial waste. 

The permit also allows monthly production of up to 9,000 reconditioned containers and drums for commercial reuse or pellet conversion.

Reconditioned Output Operates Alongside Polymer Granule Production

This provision functions alongside the company’s existing monthly output of 1,000 metric tonnes of reprocessed polymer granules. 

The expanded permissions integrate collection, reclamation and material reuse into the company’s primary manufacturing operations, allowing Pyramid Technoplast to handle packaging waste from external facilities rather than relying solely on internally generated scrap streams.

Authorisation Valid Through November 2030

Documented under Order Number AWH-103781, the revised authorisation was granted this month, with statutory fees cleared through 5 November 2030. 

The filing added that the expanded permissions also allow the company to scale its third-party recycling platform, develop customer relationships and support material recovery and reuse. 

The multi-year validity provides planning certainty for investment in collection logistics, storage infrastructure and processing equipment required to handle contaminated industrial packaging safely.

Bijaykumar Agarwal, chairman and managing director of Pyramid Technoplast, said the amended authorisation marked an important step in expanding the company’s recycling business. 

He noted that by enabling the company to receive and recycle contaminated industrial packaging from third-party customers, it could offer a more integrated solution for packaging waste management while creating an additional avenue for growth in its recycling and reprocessed products business.

Industrial Demand for Compliant Recovery Routes Grows

The development reflects growing demand among industrial manufacturers for compliant disposal and recovery routes for drums, containers and liners that previously required external handling. 

For India’s chemical, pharmaceutical and industrial sectors, access to licensed reconditioning and recycling capacity supports extended producer responsibility obligations and reduces reliance on landfill or incineration for contaminated packaging. 

The regulatory clearance positions Pyramid Technoplast to capture third-party volumes as manufacturers seek documented, auditable waste management partners capable of meeting pollution control requirements.
