Propak East Africa 2024: Driving sustainable innovation in packaging and processing industries

KENYA – The 2024 edition of Propak East Africa has officially commenced in Nairobi, Kenya, marking the start of a significant gathering of over 150 exhibitors from more than 35 countries worldwide.

Held from March 12th to 14th at the Sarit Expo Centre, this exhibition and conference serve as a crucial platform for key players in the packaging, printing, plastics, and food & beverage processing sectors in East Africa.

Organized by Montgomery Group, this year’s Propak East Africa promises to be the largest yet, with a strong emphasis on industry innovation, sustainability, and economic growth.

Angela Kinyua, Portfolio Director at Montgomery Group, highlights the event’s unique opportunity for industry stakeholders to engage with cutting-edge products and services, participate in thought-provoking sessions, and network with key buyers from Kenya, East Africa, and beyond.

Moreover, Propak East Africa is dedicated to addressing pressing challenges facing the industry, particularly the escalating demand for sustainable packaging solutions.

As Africa’s economic growth fuels increased consumption of packaged goods, there is a growing urgency to balance economic progress with environmental sustainability.

Shocking statistics reveal that each day, the equivalent of over 2,000 garbage trucks full of plastic ends up in our oceans, rivers, and lakes—a figure projected to triple by 2060 without intervention.

A 2020 study published in Science Advances estimates that by 2040, Africa will mismanage 250 million tons of plastic waste if current trends persist.

Recognizing the paramount importance of sustainability, Propak East Africa 2024 will feature discussions on circularity, designing for recyclability, and extended producer responsibility, underscoring the industry’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

The event will showcase a comprehensive exhibition highlighting the latest advancements and solutions across the entire value chain, from packaging materials and machinery to printing technologies and food processing equipment.

Live demonstrations will offer attendees a firsthand experience of these innovations, ensuring an engaging and dynamic event for all participants.

Propak East Africa has garnered support from various organizations, including the Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Industry, the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

With East Africa’s stable economy and sustained growth, the region is poised to lead Africa’s market, attracting international companies and investments, and driving the industry towards a more sustainable and prosperous future.
