The agreement will see the two companies expand local sales and service capabilities.

JAPAN – CMC Packaging Automation, an Italian firm specializing in automated packaging systems, has entered a strategic collaboration with Tokyo-based Correns, a key distributor of industrial machinery.
The partnership aims to enhance local sales and service operations across Japan, focusing on right-sized packaging that cuts waste in retail and e-commerce.
Since entering the Japanese market a decade ago with its CartonWrap system, CMC has delivered customized solutions to leading retailers and logistics providers.
These systems optimize material use, reducing excess cardboard and supporting eco-friendly processes. The new alliance builds on this track record by leveraging Correns’ nationwide presence.
Correns maintains multiple offices throughout Japan and counts over 170 staff members, including dedicated engineers.
Their technical know-how and service infrastructure will handle on-site installations and maintenance, ensuring smoother rollout for clients.
According to company details, this setup addresses the unique demands of Japan’s fast-paced logistics environment.
Francesco Ponti, CEO of CMC Packaging Automation, commented in a statement: “Japan is one of the most advanced and demanding logistics markets in the world. Our partnership with Correns represents a strong commitment to our clients in the region.”
“Together, we will deliver packaging solutions that combine efficiency, innovation and sustainability.”
The collaboration also targets greater use of automated tools in e-commerce fulfillment centers, where volume growth has strained traditional methods.
By integrating CMC’s machines, businesses can achieve precise wrapping and boxing, minimizing errors and environmental impact.
Correns president Ivar Johansson noted that the tie-up equips Japanese customers with cutting-edge technology and ongoing support to navigate evolving market pressures.
Both firms will showcase their offerings at the Japan Pack exhibition, scheduled for October 7 to 10 at Tokyo Big Sight. Attendees can explore demonstrations of compact, energy-efficient systems tailored for high-volume operations.
In August 2025, authorities introduced a positive list system for food-contact materials, mandating migration testing for synthetics starting June 2026, as outlined in a recent update.
The regulation requires stricter compliance for plastic components, encouraging shifts to verifiable low-risk alternatives.
Earlier this year, amendments to the Resource Circulation Act compelled firms to outline recycling plans, further driving demand for automated, waste-reducing tech.
Headquartered in Italy with KKR backing, CMC serves clients in Europe and North America through modular systems for order fulfillment.
Correns, meanwhile, distributes a range of automation solutions, now expanded to include CMC’s lineup.
This continuity supports the company’s role in delivering greener choices to clients while allowing Five Star to scale its North American presence.
