The Johor plant is Colorcon’s 7th major film coating plant and their 16th manufacturing facility worldwide.

MALAYSIA – Colorcon, a leader in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical film coating systems, has launched a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Johor, Malaysia.
The 200,000-square-foot plant, designed with cutting-edge technology and energy-efficient systems, is set to serve as a production hub for the Asia-Pacific region.
The facility, which began operations in July 2025, has already created 30 skilled jobs, contributing to Malaysia’s emergence as a hub for high-value pharmaceutical manufacturing.
According to Colorcon, the plant reflects its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and regulatory excellence, ensuring shorter delivery times and a resilient supply chain for customers across Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
“We are thrilled to open this world-class facility to support our pharmaceutical customers throughout Asia,” said Simon Tasker, CEO of Colorcon.
“This investment aligns with our long-term vision to strengthen and de-risk our supply model for film coatings worldwide, ensuring we stay ahead of market growth.”
The Johor plant, Colorcon’s seventh global manufacturing site, specializes in producing advanced film coating systems like Opadry, first introduced in 1980.
A report by the company highlights that Opadry revolutionized tablet coating by enhancing batch uniformity and minimizing errors.
Today, it offers solutions for taste-masking, moisture protection, and regulatory compliance, meeting diverse formulation needs.
In a statement, Willem Hoogwater, Managing Director at Colorcon, emphasized the facility’s regional impact:
“We’re proud to bring superior film coating technology to this rapidly growing region. Malaysia’s strategic position and skilled workforce make it an ideal location, and we’re excited to support the local economy with this investment.”
Beyond its operational goals, the facility incorporates eco-friendly systems to reduce environmental impact, aligning with Colorcon’s sustainability ethos.
This move complements its recent strategic initiatives, including an exclusive distribution agreement with ASHA Cellulose in May 2025 to supply polymer-based products across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
A recent update indicates Colorcon is exploring further expansions in the region, with plans to enhance technical service laboratories to support local manufacturers.
With over six decades of expertise, Colorcon continues to set benchmarks in delivering high-performance, sustainable solutions for global healthcare industries.
