SOUTH AFRICA – Epson has launched new EcoTank printers in South Africa, targeting 33% dollar-value growth in FY26 by converting users from cartridge and laser technologies to ink tank systems with up to 96% energy savings.
Epson already represents approximately 38% of the on-shelf retail market and 41% of the e-commerce market locally in the ink tank printer category.
Gareth Jay, Regional Sales Director for Africa, explained that Epson’s goal is to convert the market, adding that by converting that category, the company will be contributing to society through less waste, improved efficiency, and lower energy usage, all of which contribute to sustainability goals.
The company has already expanded its Johannesburg presence with newly renovated offices and invested significantly in an innovation centre in FY25.
EcoTank Printers: Lower Costs, Less Energy
Epson launched five new printers tailored for home, home office, and small business users, offering up to 90% lower ink costs compared to traditional cartridge-based devices.
The new range lets users print up to 150 pages per month for up to three years using a single set of ink bottles.
The printers have a more compact design, with printers up to 20% smaller and a 12% reduction in overall footprint.
Performance improvements include 20% faster colour printing, 5% faster black printing, and a printhead capable of producing up to 50,000 pages without replacement.
The key feature is Micro Piezo heat-free technology, which does not require heat at the beginning, during, or after the print job, saving users up to 96% on energy consumption according to Madleen Zurek, Product Management Specialist for Epson Europe.
Lifestudio Projectors for Home Entertainment
Epson also launched its new Lifestudio projector segment in South Africa, including portable Flex models (EF-61, EF-71, EF-72) and premium ultra-short-throw projectors (LS670, LS970) capable of displaying pictures up to 150 inches.
Integrated Google TV provides access to more than 10,000 apps without requiring additional devices, while audio is powered by Bose, allowing the projectors to function as standalone Bluetooth speakers.
Advanced features include auto screen adjustment, obstacle avoidance, and adaptive image optimisation based on wall colour and environment.
