New advanced labeling product preserves the stability and integrity of light-sensitive medications

JAPAN – Japan-based IL Group has introduced its innovative Light Protect Pack, a cutting-edge labeling solution designed to safeguard light-sensitive pharmaceuticals.
According to the company, this advanced label blocks harmful light at wavelengths as low as 380 nanometers, ensuring the stability and efficacy of photosensitive medications from packaging to administration.
Eiji Funabashi, president of Iwata Label USA, IL Group’s U.S. subsidiary, stated, “This labeling solution addresses a critical challenge in pharmaceutical packaging: balancing visibility with protection.”
“With Light Protect Pack, manufacturers and healthcare providers achieve reliable light shielding and visual clarity, ensuring drug integrity, safety, and usability.”
The label’s design allows for customization, with options like amber or aluminum materials to tailor light shielding for specific product needs, enhancing flexibility for manufacturers.
The Light Protect Pack is compatible with both glass and plastic vials and syringes, enabling visual inspection during reconstitution while maintaining robust protection against photodegradation.
The dual functionality sets it apart from conventional solutions, offering a sustainable approach by reducing the need for additional protective packaging.
In related industry developments, Alvotech, a global biotech company, recently acquired Ivers-Lee, a Switzerland-based pharmaceutical packaging specialist, to bolster its assembly and packaging capabilities.
In a statement, Robert Wessman, Alvotech’s founder, chairman, and CEO, said, “Ivers-Lee has been a trusted partner for years. The acquisition enhances our capacity to meet growing global demand for biosimilars while maintaining the highest quality standards.”
Ivers-Lee’s GMP-licensed and FDA-approved facility in Burgdorf, Switzerland, will support Alvotech’s launch of three biosimilars in 2025, integrating expertise in autoinjectors, pre-filled syringes, and vial packaging.
Peter Schüpbach, managing director at Ivers-Lee, added, “Alvotech provides financial strength and growth opportunities, ensuring stability for our employees and the company’s future.”
Additionally, recent advancements in pharmaceutical packaging include Schreiner MediPharm’s Smart Syringe Box, a tech-enabled solution for tracking syringes in clinical trials.
Unveiled in June 2025, it uses integrated electronics to monitor therapy metrics digitally, enhancing data accuracy and trial efficiency.
