Nelipak opens Singapore Technical Centre to accelerate medical packaging innovation in Asia-Pacific

SINGAPORE – Global healthcare packaging specialist Nelipak has opened a new technical development centre in Singapore to strengthen support for medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers across the Asia-Pacific region.

The facility brings together expertise in both flexible and rigid sterile barrier packaging systems, integrating design, innovation, and technical services within a single location.

According to the company, the move forms part of its broader strategy to expand its global innovation network and establish a stronger regional presence in Southeast Asia.

The centre will serve customers across Southeast Asia, India, Australia, and New Zealand, providing technical assistance for packaging development and validation.

It will also work closely with Nelipak’s international manufacturing and innovation teams to ensure that packaging solutions developed in the region can be scaled for global production.

Industry observers note that Asia-Pacific has become an increasingly important hub for medical device manufacturing and healthcare innovation, creating growing demand for advanced sterile packaging solutions that meet strict international regulatory standards.

Nelipak’s new site aims to help companies develop and test sterile packaging systems more efficiently.

Medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers will be able to collaborate directly with the centre’s technical specialists to design custom packaging formats, develop prototypes, and validate packaging performance.

The facility will support a wide range of development activities, including early-stage packaging concepts, material substitutions, sterilization method changes, line extensions, and supply chain adjustments.

By providing these services locally, the centre is expected to shorten development cycles and help companies navigate regulatory requirements more effectively.

The centre also supports compliance with ISO 11607, the globally recognized standard that defines requirements for packaging systems used to maintain the sterility of medical devices.

Pat Chambliss said the new facility represents a strategic investment aimed at strengthening the company’s support for customers in a rapidly expanding healthcare market.

“The Asia-Pacific is an important and growing region for global medical device innovation, manufacturing, and consumption,” Chambliss said.

“Our new Asia-Pacific Technical Development Center in Singapore represents a foundational investment that supports our global customer base while anchoring Nelipak firmly in the region.”

He added that the move reinforces the company’s commitment to providing access to its range of flexible and rigid sterile barrier packaging solutions, which have been widely used by healthcare manufacturers in the region for more than three decades.

In late 2025, Nelipak expanded its capabilities through the acquisition of Merrill’s Packaging.

The company specializes in thermoformed packaging solutions for medical device, pharmaceutical, life sciences, and other technical industries, strengthening Nelipak’s portfolio in advanced healthcare packaging technologies.
