Shanghai World of Packaging (swop) rebrands as interpack China

Integration into the interpack alliance highlights Shanghai’s strategic position in the international packaging industry.

CHINA – After a decade of participation in the interpack alliance, the Shanghai World of Packaging (swop) has rebranded as interpack China, reinforcing the country’s rising influence in global packaging.

The new identity was unveiled during this year’s event at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), underlining the fair’s strengthened international profile and its connection to Messe Düsseldorf’s global brand family.

“The interpack alliance is synonymous with quality, reliability, and strong global partnerships. interpack China highlights this connection and adds immediate recognition value,” said Thomas Dohse, Director of interpack and the interpack alliance.

“As part of a global brand, interpack China brings together international and Chinese companies, providing direct access to one of the most dynamic and rapidly-growing packaging markets worldwide.”

The rebranding is more than a cosmetic change. According to Evian Gu, General Manager of Messe Düsseldorf Shanghai, interpack China represents a closer integration with the global packaging ecosystem.

The fair aims to foster collaboration with international partners in intelligent production, innovative materials, and talent development, while providing a platform for Chinese companies to align with global trends.

Jointly organised by Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd., interpack China will continue building on swop’s success, promoting innovation, market insights, and networking opportunities for both domestic and international exhibitors.

China’s strategic role in global packaging

China’s industrial manufacturing capacity and dense production network make it a central hub for packaging solutions, from cardboard and films to sophisticated filling and labelling systems.

Its growth in e-commerce and the expansion of a rising middle class are driving demand for safe, sustainable, and intelligent packaging, creating opportunities for innovation across the sector.

By adopting the interpack brand, the Shanghai fair signals its increasing global relevance and aligns the Chinese market more closely with international industry standards.

The move is expected to enhance trust, attract global players, and reinforce Shanghai’s role as a key destination for packaging innovation.

The first interpack China under the new brand will take place from Nov. 16 to 18, 2026, marking a new chapter for both the trade fair and the country’s integration into the global packaging landscape.

The rebranding highlights China’s dual role as a major manufacturing hub and rapidly expanding consumer market, ensuring the nation remains pivotal in shaping the future of packaging worldwide.
