FRANCE – Albéa Cosmetics & Fragrance, in collaboration with Sulapac and Verescence, has engineered a refillable jar tailored for luxury beauty brands.

The Twirl jar showcases a Sulapac lid, comprised of biobased and recyclable materials, situated atop Verescence’s glass foundation.

Constructed from PP plastic, glass, and Sulapac, the cosmetics jar embodies sustainable practices. Verescence, the glass base producer for Twirl, incorporates 20% post-consumer recycled glass into its production process.

Sulapac, headquartered in Helsinki and renowned for its material innovation, crafts substances that leave no enduring microplastics or toxic remnants at any phase of the product life cycle, ensuring a secure choice for both people and the planet. The 50 ml refillable glass jar is touted to possess a minimal carbon footprint.

Colin Strobant, Sales Director at Sulapac, asserts, “The Twirl glass jar with a Sulapac lid is the accessible choice for beauty brands aspiring to integrate cutting-edge sustainability with a luxurious touch.”

This collaborative endeavor anticipates the escalating preference for refillable packaging in the skincare sector, gaining traction among environmentally conscious consumers.

The market shift towards eco-friendly cosmetic packaging has prompted investments, as exemplified by Subtl Beauty, recognized for its stackable and refillable makeup packaging, concluding a Series A investment funding round with an approximate investment of US$5 million at the close of the previous year.

Aline Roland, Marketing Director at Albéa Cosmetics & Fragrance, added, “We are always looking for new materials for our products that tick both the reduction and the recyclability boxes.”

The Sulapac lid emerges as an intriguing option due to its dual appeal – delivering a premium aesthetic when combined with glass and seamlessly integrating into the glass recycling stream at the product’s end-of-life.

The substitution of conventional plastic lids with Sulapac’s biobased and recyclable alternative exemplifies the company’s commitment to sustainable practices.

Bérangère Raguenet, Marketing and Communication Director at Verescence, affirms that the Twirl jar, available in their standard collection, can be customized using various decoration techniques, offering brands an eco-responsible and unique alternative.

Last September, Albéa in collaboration with L’Occitane transitioned the latter’s 30ml iconic hand cream’s packaging from Aluminum Barrier Laminate tube to all-plastic laminate and APR-certified Greenleaf solution.

The move, according to the companies, reduces the number of materials from five to two and the number of components from three to two.

This enables recyclability while reducing the overall weight of the tube by 23% compared to the current version, affirm the companies.
