Amcor, DCM launch recyclable pe film for European fertiliser market

The new product replaces DCM’s earlier multi-material structure.

BELGIUM — Amcor has partnered with Belgian fertiliser producer De Ceuster Meststoffen (DCM) to introduce a recyclable mono-material polyethylene (PE) film for the European fertiliser market, replacing a previous multi-material structure that was incompatible with existing recycling streams.

The new packaging, which contains 35% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, is available in formats ranging from 650g to 7kg.

Designed to meet both performance and sustainability requirements, the solution supports brands preparing for the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which is set to tighten recyclability and recycled content mandates in the coming years.

Sofie Peeters, communication manager at DCM, said sustainability has been central to the company’s philosophy since its founding in 1976.

“This latest packaging innovation is another step forward in delivering high-quality fertiliser products while advancing our environmental goals,” she noted.

The film structure combines machine-direction oriented PE with a functional sealant layer, delivering resistance to gas and moisture while maintaining tensile strength.

According to Amcor, the design reduces the risk of tears or punctures during transport and handling. Additional features include a secure seal to minimize deformation and a rigid structure that helps smaller packs remain upright on retail shelves.

A glossy finish has been incorporated to enhance shelf presence in garden and agricultural retail environments.

Neal Geryl, sales director at Amcor, said the development demonstrates the company’s commitment to circular packaging.

“The combination of recycle-ready, mono-material construction with post-consumer recycled content enables brands to progress their sustainability objectives while maintaining product protection and shelf appeal,” he said.

The fertiliser packaging launch follows a series of innovation-focused investments by Amcor.

Together, these developments highlight Amcor’s dual strategy of advancing recyclable material solutions while strengthening design and innovation capabilities across diverse end markets, from agriculture to fast-moving consumer goods.
