Amcor expands sustainable packaging capacity with new MDO Line in Peru

The new MDO line enhances production capabilities of AmPrima Plus films.

PERU – Global packaging leader Amcor has inaugurated a new machine direction orientation (MDO) line at its Peruvian facility, significantly expanding its regional capacity for sustainable flexible packaging.

The new line will boost production of AmPrima Plus films, supporting Amcor’s strategy to deliver recycle-ready packaging solutions across Latin America.

The investment marks a major step in Amcor’s efforts to localize advanced film manufacturing and reduce environmental impacts in the region’s packaging industry.

The MDO technology enhances material strength and performance, enabling the production of mono-material structures that are fully compatible with polyethylene (PE) recycling streams.

“We are thrilled to bring this cutting-edge technology to our facility in Peru,” said Laetitia Sanchez, Marketing Director at Amcor Latin America.

“The new MDO line not only enhances our production capabilities but also aligns with our commitment to sustainability.

“We are confident that our customers across Latin America will benefit greatly from the superior quality and environmental advantages of AmPrima Plus recycle-ready packaging solutions.”

AmPrima Plus is an ultra-clear, heat-resistant film engineered to deliver the same performance as traditional multilayer laminates, but with recyclability built in.

The film has already been adopted for several consumer applications in the region, including liquid baby shampoo in Brazil, dulce de leche in Argentina, wet condiments in Costa Rica, and dry fruits in Chile.

Amcor reports that AmPrima Plus offers 26% lower carbon emissions, 22% less non-renewable energy use, and 19% lower water consumption compared to conventional PET/PE-EVOH pouch structures, positioning it as a benchmark in sustainable flexible packaging.

The new Peruvian MDO line supports Amcor’s broader goal of making all packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025 and strengthens its presence in one of the fastest-growing packaging markets in the world.

It also improves supply chain resilience and proximity to key customers seeking sustainable material solutions.

Launch of packaging solution for healthcare industry

In parallel, Amcor has expanded its healthcare portfolio with the launch of AmSecure, a next-generation APET-based thermoformed packaging solution for medical and pharmaceutical products.

Designed to replace PETG, AmSecure offers comparable clarity and performance while improving recyclability and cost efficiency.

Art Castro, Vice President of Amcor Flexibles Healthcare in North America, said, “AmSecure represents a significant advancement in healthcare packaging by delivering APET-based thermoformed solutions that meet critical needs without compromising performance.”

With simultaneous advances in consumer and healthcare packaging, Amcor continues to cement its leadership in sustainability, innovation, and circular packaging systems across global markets.
