UK – Amcor, a global leader in packaging solutions, has unveiled an innovative one-litre polyethylene terephthalate (PET) carbonated soft drink (CSD) bottle crafted entirely from post-consumer recycled (PCR) material.

This breakthrough offering meets the surging demand for sustainability and expedites time-to-market for beverage brands.

Claimed as the first of its kind in stock options, this bottle epitomises Amcor Rigid Packaging’s (ARP) steadfast commitment to responsible packaging.

Krishna Valluripalli, ARP’s Beverage Marketing Director, highlighted, “By furnishing an array of readily accessible choices, ARP empowers brands at every growth phase to opt for genuinely responsible packaging.

“Introducing a one-liter CSD stock portfolio in 100% PCR guarantees brands swift market access, addressing both the mounting consumer preference for recycled content and legislative mandates.”

This introduction seamlessly aligns with Amcor’s aggressive sustainability targets set in 2018. They aim for 100% recyclable, reusable, or compostable packaging by 2025—an objective ARP has already achieved 95% progress toward.

Furthermore, Amcor’s industry leadership in recycled material utilisation, processing over 375 million pounds of recycled materials in 2023, solidifies its commitment to sustainable practices.

The advent of Amcor’s 100% PCR CSD bottle marks a significant stride in the beverage packaging sector’s quest for a greener tomorrow.

It enables brands to meet environmental and regulatory standards and facilitates expedited product launches, underscoring an unwavering dedication to environmental stewardship.

Aldi switches to 100% recycled plastic bottles for soft drinks and water

Similarly, leading supermarket chain Aldi is making waves by introducing 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) bottles for its own-brand soft drinks and water range across England and Wales.

This bold transition, covering all products within the soft drinks aisle except caps and labels, is anticipated to curtail the use of virgin plastic by approximately 10,000 tonnes annually.

Aldi’s initiative harmonises with its broader objective of integrating 50% recycled content into all plastic packaging by 2025.

Aldi’s Plastics and Packaging Director Luke Emery emphasised, “Our customers deeply value the sustainability of packaging and its lifecycle, propelling us to minimise our environmental footprint.

“Shifting to recycled content for our soft drinks range is a pivotal step in this journey, complemented by our efforts to raise customer awareness about recycling.

By introducing new labelling and innovative packaging solutions, like our recent launch of paper wine bottles, Aldi continues to lead the charge towards a more sustainable future.”
