The new Pune facility brings advanced RFID capabilities closer to Avery Dennison’s regional customers and partners.
INDIA – Avery Dennison has inaugurated its first RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) inlay and label manufacturing facility in Pune, India, marking a major milestone in its global growth strategy.
The launch signals a significant step toward strengthening its presence in India and the broader South Asia region, while reinforcing its commitment to smart, sustainable labeling technologies.
Positioned to become a key operational hub, the new Pune facility brings advanced RFID capabilities closer to Avery Dennison’s regional customers and partners.
By localizing production, the company aims to accelerate innovation, boost supply chain efficiency, and meet the rising demand for intelligent labeling solutions across multiple industries.
“This launch reinforces our vision to invest in local capabilities and better serve our customers with cutting-edge, reliable, and scalable RFID solutions,” the company stated.
Avery Dennison’s expansion is aligned with its broader mission to enable transparency, efficiency, and sustainability through advanced labeling technologies.
Earlier this year, Avery Dennison partnered with global medical technology company Becton Dickinson and Company (BD) to launch BD iDFill, a pre-fillable syringe featuring integrated RFID traceability and authentication.
This innovation incorporates RFID tags directly into the rigid needle shield of the syringe, preserving the barrel’s design and integrity while enabling unit-level digital traceability throughout the product’s lifecycle.
Each smart needle shield carries a unique digital identifier, enabling precise authentication at the point of care and enhancing patient safety.
This advancement supports hospitals and pharmaceutical companies in improving inventory management, reducing the risk of product mix-ups, and enhancing operational workflows.
“The ability to uniquely identify individual items moves beyond traditional batch monitoring, saving time and reducing costs,” noted Heikki Haavisto, Managing Director at Turck Vilant Systems, a partner in the project.
Barbara Van Rymenam, Senior Director of Healthcare at Avery Dennison Smartrac, emphasized the broader impact, “Tracing individual units allows manufacturers to mitigate risks related to mix-ups while using advanced analytics to optimize manufacturing processes. The solution meets stringent industry requirements while improving efficiency.”
The BD iDFill syringe system will be showcased at Pharmapack Europe, which will take place January 22–23 in Paris, France.
Avery Dennison and Turck Vilant Systems will jointly demonstrate the solution’s traceability and authentication capabilities.
With the opening of the Pune facility and innovations like BD iDFill, Avery Dennison is positioning itself at the forefront of RFID technology in both industrial and healthcare sectors.
