BEEAH partners with Greenthesis to launch Middle East’s first PE film recycling facility

UAE – BEEAH has forged a strategic partnership with Greenthesis, a global player in industrial waste management, to develop the Middle East’s first polyethylene (PE) film recycling facility in Sharjah.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Italy-UAE Business Forum in Rome, a high-level event that coincided with a historic meeting between UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Italian Prime Minister Her Excellency Giorgia Meloni.

The business forum was a key event in the UAE delegation’s visit to Italy, during which over 40 bilateral agreements were signed, committing US$40 billion in investments across sectors such as sustainability, energy, infrastructure, and advanced technology.

The agreement between BEEAH and Greenthesis aligns with these strategic goals, aiming to enhance circular economy practices and resource efficiency in the region.

Under the agreement, the new PE film recycling facility will be established within BEEAH’s integrated waste management complex in Sharjah’s Al Sajaa area. PE film, a lightweight plastic commonly used in protective packaging and labels, is notoriously difficult to recycle, often contributing to environmental pollution.

The facility will transform PE waste into a sustainable alternative to plywood, supporting eco-friendly infrastructure development while reducing landfill dependency.

Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO and Vice Chairman of BEEAH, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, “Our partnership with Greenthesis marks a major step in addressing challenges in integrated waste management.

“By developing this PE film recycling facility, we not only tackle a hard-to-recycle waste stream but also set a precedent for sustainable infrastructure solutions. This initiative aligns with our vision for zero-waste cities and a circular economy.”

Greenthesis CEO Simona Grossi echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are proud to collaborate with BEEAH in introducing innovative circular economy technologies.

“Our expertise in industrial waste management, combined with BEEAH’s leadership in sustainability, will enable us to expand operations internationally while delivering impactful solutions for the environment.”

The facility will process over 7,000 tonnes of plastic waste annually, converting discarded PE films from municipal and commercial sources into durable, reusable boards.

These boards, produced through a chemical-free process, will serve as a sustainable alternative to plywood in construction.

Once their lifespan ends, they can be reprocessed into new boards, creating a fully circular recycling system. The initiative presents a cost-effective and long-lasting solution for the construction industry while advancing BEEAH’s role in resource recovery and innovation.

BEEAH and Greenthesis will leverage their joint venture, B&A Waste Management, which has successfully executed industrial waste management projects in the UAE, including soil remediation.

The new PE film facility represents an expansion of their collaboration and strengthens BEEAH’s long-term goal of achieving zero-waste cities.

BEEAH’s partnerships in Italy extend beyond waste management. The company has previously worked with Intesa Sanpaolo Bank and SACE to facilitate sustainable financing.

More recently, BEEAH collaborated with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW), founded by the renowned Italian architect, to develop the Jawaher Boston Medical District in Sharjah—a project set to bring world-class healthcare and innovation to the UAE.

These collaborations underline BEEAH’s commitment to fostering sustainable and strategic partnerships, further reinforcing the growing economic ties between the UAE and Italy.
